Back from Strugis 2007

That is horrible to hear about your friend FLHT, I hope she recovers soon, I also hope someone lets the dealer who "fixed" her bike know what happened as well. Man, I hate hearing stuff like that. Let's just hope she gets better soon.

I hate to say it, but as hard as it is to hear about an accident like this it makes us all think and be more careful.

The front end falling apart !! How did that happen?? what could have been that loose that the mechanic didn't find it??

Wow Marc! I'm sorry to hear about your friend. I hope she gets better, get rid of the pain..we'll worry about getting her back to work and on the bike later. Sorry I didn't get in touch. I left your numbers at home.....[busy getting ready and not organized and left home with the phone with a dead battery] My trip was relatively quiet..didn't stay long..went back home and got married. I think Kevin wore his Helmet in Arizona on the FJR..I remember the big stogie and no hard hat in Laughlin though.... almost 10 years ago now. Hope all is well

First, really sad to hear of your friend. All those broken ribs has most likely caused flail chest, which means the muscles on your ribs can't control breathing in and out. I'm sure she's been or still on mechanical vent to breath. She's got a long way to go and even longer with rehab to get anywhere near normal. I'll be praying for her.

As far as me not riding w/o a helmet, I rode from the restaurant back to the motel that last night less than a half mile at no more than 25-30 mph..very cautiously. In the recent accident, I low-sided at around 25 mph or so, and my helmet has some good road rash right above my left eyebrow, with several spots of road rash on the back of the helmet. I didn't even know my head hit the ground until I took the helmet off.

What gets me, is the cager who slammed their brakes on and then signaled left about the same time (to pull suddenly into an obscure little dirt road), isn't at fault because I didn't hit them. I signaled and was making a legal pass..no signs that there's a road (dirt remind you) to turn left onto. If I'd continued to pass, they most likely would've bumped me off the road going at least 40 mph..into rocks and all kinds of crap. No..I'm seriously lucky I was able to steer back to the right and miss the cager and not go off the road. Now..would ABS have kept me from going down? My rear tire locked up when the weight shifted forward to the front tire. I was lined up to continue around the cager to the right.

Just read the rest of the thread. Marc..God..the pain must be really hard to deal with. If she's off the ventilator, then too much morphine to kill the pain could stop her breathing. You don't want to be on a ventilator if you don't have too, as other complications can arise.

Damn Bob..you remember me riding while smoking a stogie (not that that's any big feat). Don't think I've done that since. 10 years..time's sure flying by. Lot's happened since, eh? Laughlin used to be fun..now it's just too damn expensive!

Looking forward to Street Vibrations in a month. Hoping to see Red Rider this time..no studying to get in the way.

I'm happy to hear she is progressing. I was wondering how she was doing. Thanks for letting us know.

By being alive she has overcome a lot. To make it this far she has to be one strong lady, so I have good expectations of you coming back telling us she is doing fine and even back to work. Sounds like a stubborn woman, and we all know how much those can do. I wish her all the best in a speedy and complete recovery.

God speed. Determination can do a lot in rehab with the right mindset and dedication. Any damage to the spinal cord? If not, good chance of being somewhat normal.
