The heat wrap does have a purpose as well, to get the outside cooler so people like me don't burn the shiit out of there legs because they didn't have the foresight to think of this before they chose a set of pipes. :D

I don't want to reduce the fuel.
I don't care about fuel milage on my cycle.
I don't spend much time, if any, at bottom end. uSUALLY FULL THOTTLE ALWAYS.
I usually crack the throttle wide flicking open and then power shift thru my 4 lolely gears. It's my riding style. I like hearing my pipes roar while accelling and also the reverb while decelling. It's just me and that's what i like.
Now I must ask you, IS THAT SO WRONG!?!?

Anybody need a pair of custom chrome baffles for 2" pipes?
They can be yours, almost free. You gotta pay the shipping costs.
    Let me know you bee-at-chees.

Yeah, I can give ya a couple of reasons to put the baffles back in

Of course it's Ahmuricuh, so it's your right to choose... however....

They call them DRAG-pipes for a reason, drag racing, more top end, more HP up top. It's been shown time and again on dynos that un-baffled pipes, even on the stroker are killing the bottom end power, you are actually loosing TQ and the engine isn't giving you all it can,

So then, like less power than you should have? just leave them out..

Other thing is - noise, cops, upset non bikers (more of them
than there are us) tickets, and encourage enforcement of all of us
for to limit the noise based on the few that make it worse... :banghead:

Many states have enacted noise level limits on bikes,
and they are writing tickets all because some guys like to
gun the engines with WOT and open pipes.

Hey I like the sound of open pipes too, however

When we as a group piss off enough non bikers and they
get johnny law to enforce the laws on the books or write others..

Remember last year FL passed a NEW anti motorcycle law,
no sideways mounted license plates. must be mounted horizontal
no wheelies, get caught doing 35 over, loose the bike, big fines.

All targeted ONLY at ALL motorcycles because some south fl numb nuts were outrunning cops on Gixxers and Busas with hidden plates etc...

Finally the guys that ride beside ya, give their ears a break, guarantee you're pounding their ears out when you rip the throttle... hey you want them to hear you ask for a beer and not go what? :roflmao:

Got a set of bassani pro streets that will take your ear drums out
sound great, if you're 50 yards ahead on a bike, but next to you
it will blast out your buddies ears..

how's dat for a comeback beeeatch! LOL :roflmao:

That last line was very funny sir~! Congrats, I laughed out loud!
Please don't slip and fall off of your soap box. Just kidding.
How about a comprimise. My thought was I was going to cut down my baffles to make them shorter and not as effective but still keep them in at about 50% their stock length. They are about 9" long (i think). What if I shorten them up to still baffle but not to affect my throttle response as much as they do at full length?
Do you think that's a good idea?
    Oh yeah, I almost forgot,......Beeeeatch~!

Sure won't hurt, thing is every engine responds differently

only real way to know is the dyno to see the exact effects.

If you were going to give them away I'd opt to cut them down.

Before you do that do the lollypop trick on the exhaust
see if it helps the bottom end...

I have tried this before (i'm serious, I really did) and it didn't do very much if anything. All I noticed was a little bit of a sound difference. I won't waste time doing it again.
Ummm, Do you keep your cycle in your living room?

Man, talk about making a bike look like crap too.

I would have to agree with TommyC on this, how does this have any effect on back pressure?????:wtf:

you have to play with them, some bikes like them some don't

Rotate them 45, then 90 degrees,

Getting the right length on the baffle is tricky as well

    Cutting them down will help...

As will getting the jets right.

Had a Thunderheader on my Heritage when it was a 95
every once in a while I'd pop on the V&H Longshots and
    the bike would run poorly

It couldn't pull through 3000 RPM as the pipes were
backing up the engine, even with baffles out.

Had to back off the fuel, and then it'd pull through the RPM fine
you'd think the coil was dying the way it died with too much fuel..

That's what was happening with the baffles I have even with the carbie running lean.
I am gonna cut them in half and then try them once more just to make YOU happy Sir~!
I will keep you posted on the results.

    what's with the sir LOL

Well it's worth doing, see if it will run better, you might just
fix up the bottom end power and still have good sound...

tommy how long are your drag pipes? I had the 57in from head to tip , I cut the 18in baffles down to about 6in & it worked fine in my 73 shovel & it was built up from a 74in to around 100in (special wheels ) & bore job head work , she never did like the SNS carb or any other carb so I re did the bendix & she ran great & good low & top end , was just not a road bike anymore :banghead:
