I agree but if you restrict the carry rights of individuals
to protect themselves, and in turn you provide inadequate protection
    you should be held accountable...

By outlawing personal protection devices, knives, guns, mace, bear spray, baseball bats etc you leave "LAW ABIDING" people defenseless

Thugs don't care, they go to jail either way... So it's not an issue.

Ya got to love this...The news this morning said apparently there were 5 or 6 off duty police officers involved...As you would expect the police union says they have no responsibility as they are off duty...How pathetic...Just one more reason to carry if you can...Speaking of carrying, some of these scum bags were packing...

I think Thats BS from the union. They ARE responsible if present during a crime! My brother was a city cop and he always spoke of the responsibility.

Lets not forget the Iron Pigs MC debacle in Sturgis a couple years ago....fortunately there are LEO's who do hold the position they have a responsibility 100% of the time. Off and on duty.

Update...Yesterday the undercover cop pleaded not guilty despite video of him bashing in the window and lying to his superiors that he was not there...The cop currently has no gun, no badge and is off the force...As expected the police union is standing behind him which I just do not understand...The guy in the SUV that was protecting himself and his family will not be charged but will probably be sued by the wife of the thug that he ran over...One attorney said she probably will not win the case but the cost to defend this kind of case is huge...

It's the unions job to represent the officer despite what he may or may not have done. They collect money from the officers and legal representation is one of the benefits promised. This goes for Many unions. I once had to sue a union person and his lawyer was provided by the union and the lawyer admitted to my lawyer that he HAD to represent "this dirtbag".

I'd think it would be the opposite, the Union should represent the membership and their image as well as the unions image. In this case it would be like violating the terms of an agreement based on a code of conduct.

Violate those terms and you loose your Union backing for legal fees.

It ends up making the union look low class and thuggish like most people believe them to be.

I also agree but a deal is a deal and it's in the contract and innocent until proven guilty , blah, blah , blah. Then he will be dropped by the union faster than a hot exhaust manifold.

True Ken, I should have said it perpetuates the image.....

I can see Union legal backing for actions against the employer
or in defense of the employee from employer actions, firing, harassment etc
