Johnny, between $10,000 and $11,000. Well, boys, I got the bearing and seal out and discovered a crack in the casting I hadn't noticed before. Maybe that was from when I threw it across the yard. Also the inner casting where the bearing was is badly chewed up. I am going to scrap the inner primary. I talked with the guys I got it from and they said they would trade me all the other parts on the primary for a 1 3/4" used open primary. I saw the pictures and it looks pretty good. The belt is brand new, other parts looked nearly new. This is what I wanted to do from the git-go, so I'm going for it. I can use all the inner clutch parts I now have and won't cost me another nickel, except to send the remainder of the primary parts out. If all goes well, I may be riding soon . . .
HRK, thanks for all your advice. I just don't see any reason to try and fix it now. Also, a good part of the shoulder was broken off and I would have to take it to a machine shop and have about 3/16" machined off to get it level on the inside. No job for a dremel.

Yeah, how about that. Here's a pic of the primary they're sending me. What do ya'll think? I don't see a nut for the motor crankshaft, but they said they'd send me one.

Mac the wife and I had a few last night! I ordered a 3/4 helmet from Lick's Custom Cycle's yesterday, too. Yup, I don't even have a helmet, yet! I do have an actual 1970's bubble face shield that I'll attach to it. I used to wear one of those and they worked well to keep bugs from smacking me in the face and wind out of my eyes.

That looks like a a clutch shell for an electric start bike, it has a ring gear on it, you have a kick start, correct? Are you gonna grind off the ring gear?
Hopefully that shell fits your tranny shaft and clutch set-up. Is your tranny a tapered shaft type? Also you should have 2 of the flat discs that go in front of and behind the motor pulley. Make sure you get a washer with the motor shaft nut and make sure the motor pulley is shimmed properly~!
Your seriously not gonna wear that helmet face mask are you? You students will make fun of you forever~! :roflmao: Don't do it man!

Who cares what my air head students think? Or anybody else, for that matter! Have you ever had a large bug smack you in the face at 70MPH? I have, and I can tell you - it hurts! Tommy, I am going to grind off the ring. My tranny has a tapered shaft and this shell will work with it, or so they tell me. I already have a flat washer that came with the charging system (see pics). Will that one work?I'm not exactly sure what these washers look like that you're talking about. I suppose I could get them from Lowe's?

Looks like the one in this pic. It's very important to make sure your pulleys are lined up properly.
Use a straight edge from the edge of front pulley to oppisite edge on tranny pulley. shim the motor pulley out to match tranny pulley. BDL has some install instructions that are very helpful.
I'd also reccomend putting some anti-seize on the motor shaft before the motor pulley goes on. You don't want that baby getting siezed onto the shaft. Not fun to pull it off.
Have fun. Lets us know if you get stuck.

JoshBob, I'm wondering if you or anyone else out would like to trade a rear spoked wheel for a solid aluminum centerline type wheel? My wheel is a 16".
    Let me know, thanks.
Attached is a pic of mine.

Thought I'd post a couple of pics of my tranny. The guy I got it from says he learned a valuable lesson from all of this. He bought the tranny (I assume from a vendor at a swap meet) who said it had been rebuilt. So, he never checked it because he believed the guy. He aplogized for all the trouble I had with it. His builder also "timed the lid", whatever that means, and says it should shift much better now. I had it bench tested and it shifts smooth. And yeah, I love my retro bubble face shield - it's the real deal!

    Nice looking tranny~!
Timing the lid is a required step to assure the tranny shifts properly. The lid is the black top part that contains the shift drum. The drum has to be set, adjusted, etc. to work properly with the shift forks inside the tranny.
Dude, lose the bubble face~! You're gonna look like a real dork!
