Hey JoshBob, I found a custom bike that has a 103" S&S shovel, springer front end, hardtail etc. The guy that has it said that the engine is balanced. Is the process of engine balancing the same as it for a car engine? He wants $10,500 for it. I will pM a picture of it if you want????

Sorry but, friends don't let friends ride shovelheads looking like a dork.
That bike is gonna be way too cool, don't mess it up by wearing a bubble shield.
Uuum, I think they went out of style for a reason~!

JB, it's a similar process. The crankshaft is balanced and trued.
I would stay away from a 103 ci shovelhead. Too much compression for the rest of the bikes systems to keep up with. You will end up having problems with all things like, starter, solenoid, relay, wiring, battery, switches, etc. The bikes were never designed for that much compression~!

Not if it's going into a Harley, I wouldn't do it. If it's a total custom bike than that's a different story. Systems can be designed to work with the high compression motors requirements.

I hope not cause I to think they are fugly and the bubble face should go away. Much better helmets out their now. Harley has a 3/4 helmet that has a shield that is hidden up in the helmet and when you need a shield you can drop it down.
I use a Scorpion 1/2 helmet with drop down shield. They also make a full face that will convert to a half helmet, very good helmet.

Scorpion Helmets Half - Scorpion Half Helmets

Ha-ha-ha! Some people just don't understand what cool is. Cool, Tommy, is an attitude, not a style. I won't look like a dork because I don't carry myself like one. I'm into retro, that's all. I like things that have a little history behind them.

That's a lot of geetus. I'd be interested in seeing the pic, though. Far as balancing, You'd have to ask someone more knowledgeable than me, but I would think the process would be similar for both.

Those are very nice helmets, but I've been told that the retractable shield doesn't keep the wind out of the eyes. What's the point in having half a shield if it doesn't keep the wind out of the eyes? I've tried goggles (the kind that fit over glasses) and I didn't like the way they felt - too much stuff on my face. A bubble shield is less confining to my way of thinking. And they don't fog up, either. And it's retro, too. Of course, so is the Edsel!

Works for me just fine. I mean common your on a motorcycle, there is wind. :D There are also nice 3/4 helmets with pull down shields that are full length. Get to a stop and raise the shield to breathe or if its damp out let some of the fog out of the shield to clear it off.

I love the wind in my face, and that's the down side to wearing shields - no wind. But my eyes tear up easily with wind on them, then I can't see at all. I have heard that there are prescription goggles one can wear. I'd wear those instead of a shield because then I wouldn't have to wear goggles AND glasses, and take my chances with the bugs. Does anyone know who makes them?

I wear prescription glasses and like the small drop down shield that the Scorpion helmet has. When the weather turns bad I wear the 3/4 helmet with the full drop down shield.
When I take the windshield off the springer and ride I to get the teary eye syndrome so a shield on the helmet is a must.

I know that a lot of HD glasses can be adapted for prescription use. If you go to a dealer and ask someone who works in that department they should be able to tell you which glasses can be adapted... My dealer could sent them to a place that they use or you may be able to go to your regular place and have it done there. It won't be cheep but it is possible..
