Mostly electrical stuff today - installed battery and made some wood pieces to box it in. I used the spare leather strap from the tool bag and lashed the battery in with it. Completed most of the electrical connections except the ignition switch which is going under the seat & the tail light stuff. All wires are stranded and all connectors are first pinched and then soldered. Most wires are double insulated with shrink tubing.

Here's a couple of pics from our 4th of July celebration which got rained out before we really got started. I hear we'll be shooting off the fireworks this coming Saturday. The Resurrection Riders showed up, mostly on Goldwings - putt-putt-putt-putt-putt - not exactly the sound of heavy metal thunder! Restored Farmall has a Chevy 283 - gets the rows plowed in a hurry!

    Your build looks great!!

Nothing more fun then building your own. I did the same a few years ago with a full blown chopper. Documented the process at my site, -= www.skurz.com =- - click Green Envy.

You'll really appreciate your work when you park outside the bar and walk inside and notice the crowd gathering around your bike. :D

Thanks, Kerry! Mine has been 2 years (of blood, sweat & beers) and a lot of mistakes along the way. I'm learning as I go; wrecked a fender and an oil tank in the process! Not nearly as extensive as the amount of work you put into yours - I looked over the pics of your build. Very nice work and your bike turned out fantastic.

If you are running an old horseshoe oilbag the mount on the lower left side was for both the inner tin primary cover and the chain guard.
    ;?)

Thanks hrdtlrydr. The horseshoe tank I now have is an aftermarket one that didn't have the chain guard bracket. I like it better without it. My old tank (the one I wrecked trying to chop it to clear the ratchet) had one, but I ground it off as it wouldn't clear the aluminum primary (shovelhead set up) I had at the time. Then I discovered that the tank was still hitting the primary & the ratchet. I didn't know it at the time, but that old tank I had was made to go with the tin primary (panhead set up). So I had to go with a tank that had more clearance underneath. Just one of many mistakes I made and a fairly costly one both in money & time.

Don't ask . . . don't tell? Ha-ha! Well, here I am, sittin' in front of the puter in the man cave suckin' down a XX beer & inhaling cheezits! Tried installing the rear chain and the oil lines today. Pretty straightforward, right? Well, everything went fine on the chain until I realized I was two links short. So, I went to the other side of the bike and started in on the oil lines. Everything went fine until I realized I was, no kidding, two inches short on the last one.
So, I am regrouping and getting ready to drive the 60 miles to get the "missing links". Life is good!

Probably not terribly interesting to most of you out there, but my Lick's lightweight 3/4 helmet arrived in today's post. Hotdamn! Fits perfect & the color is the same as my bike - flat black. I attached the bubble shield to it even though it's scratched up and it feels heavy and looks bulky, plus the view is a bit distorted. I'm going to go with Lick's Visormatic transitional half shield instead. TOMMYC, WHERE ARE YOU? If you are reading this, see post 444 on this thread.

Today I ended up sending the short chain back to J&P for a longer one. My indie told me it's easier than trying to patch more links on. That will set things back another couple weeks. Just made the deadline for return items. Hooking up the last oil line this evening when it cools down some, then the fuel line - then I have to do the timing - first time trying that, but the manual is pretty clear . . . points are already set. After that, it's start up time. Stocked up some adult libations in the shop fridge for the occasion.
