It's a dust collector. Back when I was doing carpentry work in the shop, I made a "dust box" under the bench and drilled a bunch of holes in the top. Whenever I got sawdust on the benchtop, I turned on the collector and it sucked all the dust away. It also works to clear the dust flying around inside the shop. Got the idea in one of my woodworking mags.
The hose going thru the floor used to come up under my table saw (where the bike now sits) and suck all the dust while I ripped boards. Kept the shop really clean and saved my lungs to boot.

Tail light was not working after I'd hooked everything up (temporarily). First thing I looked for was no ground and sure enough, it wasn't grounding. Took it apart and cleaned off the threads on the two screws that attached it to the license plate bracket which attached to the axel/frame. Walla, light!
Then I noticed the coil was very hot. Not good. At present, the top wire goes from the coil to the breaker/switch/battery and the bottom wire goes to the points. (See wiring diagram on the left). SHOULD THERE BE A GROUND WIRE HOOKED UP TO THE BOTTOM OF THE COIL? I just remembered that when I got the coil last year, there was a connector on it that had two spades on it - I assume one was for the points and the other for a ground wire. The tail light, head light, and horn work, but they get power too soon (when I turn the key to "ignition").

Second diagram on the right shows revised wiring that I will try unless someone says otherwise: 1) regulator/rectifier goes straight to battery +; 2) top wire of coil goes straight to ignition wire in switch; and 3) ground wire goes from bottom of coil to frame.

    I hope I didn't fry anything today!

Here's an easy diagram to follow...

Is the jumper on the ignition switch there??If it is thats why your lights come on when you turn to ignition

What a cool diagram! Thanks, Lucifer. You know, whenever I invoke that name, I look uneasily over my shoulder. That name got a bad rap around these parts, ha-ha! (I live in the Bible Belt South).
Looks like I have the coil & regulator hooked up correctly in my new diagram except for the inline fuses - I'm wondering what rating to use?
ALso, there does not appear to be a ground wire coming off the coil in your diagram, so I'll leave mine as is.
The acc. & ign. were "jumped" yesterday cause I had both connections going to the 15 amp. breaker - I think that is why the coil heated up, too.

I think I have all the wiring straightened out, guys. I just hope I didn't burn the coil up. It didn't smell, it just got too hot to keep my hand on it. It stays cool now and everything else works like it should.
Today I'm starting to build a deck for my next door neighbor. Hope I didn't bite off more than I can chew . . .

Update on deck. This is what I've done so far. Back gave out this morning so I'm taking the rest of the day off. Guess I'm getting too old for this kind of work anymore . . . this may be my last deck!

I used to build decks moonlighting. I got to old for it. I look at my 3 level deck and I know I don't have it in me anymore. Almost 60 is beginning to suck.

Almost 70 is even worse! Here is a pic of the finished wiring. Not the prettiest looking job, but everything is right. Soon as I finish the deck, maybe Friday, I'm loading up the scooter and going into the "big city" to get the exhaust brackets & the ignition bracket welded on. My rear chain should be here tomorrow . . .

Did you lag bolt the decks to the structure. :D

Yea 60 does suck, you start waking up every morning with pains you didn't know could exists. :gah:
That's why I know the ride to the wall this year needs to be done now, might not be able to do it if I wait.

We don't do things like that here in N.C! Used 3" decking screws, and lots of 'em!
