I see you gave in and filled up the SUV :roflmao: Hope that helped her nerves. :)

If I could even get a doc to look at my records I might get some help. Gonna try to get into the VA next week.

Hope everything is OK with you guys with this storm and hope Joshbob's bike don't drown and he is able to get it started, soon. I think he needs that. :)

Joshbob, put a heavy blanket and tarp over the bike in case the windows blow out of your workshop. Plywood would even be better, but I suppose it's too late for that. We're praying for you man.

Well this "Long Island Mountain" is about 60 ft above the seawater! LOL But yer right, we are surrounded by big oaks. We've had more than 600% of normal rain this summer (I wish i could send it your way) and we are counting on trees falling. Sleeping on the main floor, middle of house. Chainsaw is all sharpened and gassed. Tomorrow morning Irene comes a callin.

Reason to gas up is when power goes out fuel pumps at station will not work.

Also good idea to hit ATM. Same problem. You need cash ATM and credit card machines need power

Got LP tank for house so got hot water and gas cooktop so we can cook. Grill outside is LP.

Also have generator that I put a 220 dryer connection into main panel turn off main power to fuse box flip on twin 40's and backrest house so fans lights and tv fridge work. Have 4 five gallon containers I fill up before storm

Load the sig up and wait

You will find out what you missed

Good luck it just a cat 1 so trees power some home wind damage etc

Sounds like you have a bit of experience:D

We have to deal with ice storms in the winter and loose power to, but not as wide spread as what a hurricane produces.

Our power came on yesterday after 27 hours without. Boys, it rained 25 hours straight! Before the storm came, Mac the wife filled a bunch of containers with water and stuck 'em in the big freezer so we could have ice blocks in the fridge & ice box. We managed to save most of our food, though we weren't able to cook because our stove is electric. I'm going to get a Coleman camp stove for the next time this happens. Phone lines were out till just a while ago, so now we're back on line.
I read Fatboy's post "Irene" - hope you fared okay up there, brother! We're all okay here. There was some damage & flooding but we were fortunate it wasn't any worse, as you guys can see from the pics. Our neighbors on the coast didn't fare as well . . . BTW, The Beast is fine.

Oh yeah a few years back we had three here hit CFL, hasn't been any do that
since the 60's and two were back to back.

Power was out for 4 days for me, I was in Lowes and they had two pallets of Generators, walked around got some tape, tarp batteries and by the time I got back up front over half were gone, bought one figured if I didn't unbox it I could take it back, well we needed it. Had power while others didn't, LP made hot showers good, tried to get the neighbor ladies to use the shower on the patio but no go LOL

The Ice trick Joshbob did is smart, the other thing to do is fill your tubs with water, if you loose it, you can boil it on gas stove or grill for safety and you can use it to flush toilet bowls or cook or bathe etc.

    Sounds like y'all did good.

The first 4 pics are of our yard, and the rest are in Hobgood. We lost power twice last night but the power boys got it up and running. Mac took my chain saw into Tattoo's this morning for repair.

We were blessed, what can I say? There were people who were devastated on the coast. One old geezer was lamenting he'd lost everything after a lifetime of hard work - it was hard to watch.
Mac took the chainsaw to Tattoo's shop and she said he had work lined up all the way to the curb. He took the saw and fixed it right on the spot and wouldn't take Mac's money, either. Told her I'd given him a lot of bike parts. He thinks the reason my bike isn't starting is because of the carb. I "rebuilt" it a while back and neither one of us is confident I did it right. I need to have a professional look it over, so I'm going to find out if Ken would be interested in fixing it for me.

glad you guys came out ok. We don't get that kind of weather up here. Some blizzards maybe but we have a week's supply of non perishable food and have filled up the bathtub for drinking water just in case. more for a flu emergency like H1N1..I should look at a generator..got everything else.

Well, boys, back to motorcycle stuff . . . I took the air cleaner off this morning and squirted some starter fluid into the carb - not expecting anything. One kick and THE BEAST STARTED! It ran for a minute or two, ran pretty good - no misses - and then conked out. Couldn't get it going again. Came back a couple hours later and tried again and it wouldn't start. Gas came out the carb bowl drain hose - a lot of it. Puddle was a couple feet around. Cleaned it up and have fans blowing out the fumes and drying the floor. Guess I'm lucky the gas didn't explode while I was trying to start it. Let me tell ya, boys - the Beast roars, even at idle.
I think I can assume the timing is alright. Definitely getting spark to the plugs. It must be the carb. Sticking float maybe? When I tried kicking it the last couple times, gas started coming out the end of the carb, leaking onto the cone. Glad I caught it in time before it blew up on me!
    NOW WHAT?

Yep I agree , you can try tapping Thr float bowl with a 5 lb hammer :) but a screw driver handle works better ., this is just incase it's a easy stick & not out of adjustment , if not to hard push it out side ( flat board under kick stand) this might might from burning your shop down , but you had a big smile for that few seconds
