I'm in no hurry now to work on it.

Trick or Treater's got rained out last night - no one showed up. No Ibu's today. I'm trying to tough it out . . . don't feel much like working on the scooter. It sit's there; a 500 pound, $12,000 paperweight. Sure is beautiful. I had to send a M.O. to CV Performance today for the stage 1 upgrade. Now I'm looking for an adaptor and an air cleaner and an enricher.
I hope there is nothing wrong with this carb . . .

Carb is cv - with the 93A designation

That looks more like someone tried to
relieve some material for fitting something
on a bike, or, it was tight up against something

Take your time and clean it up inside good as it's been sitting
and get the jet numbers now while it's off.

Replace the bowl screws with Allens, you can get them
at any ace hardware for very little, and it makes
a big difference if you need to rejet to tune it
vs trying to get a screwdriver in there.

Do you have a vac operated petcock or
a gravity flow. That brass tube is a vac line
so if you have a gravity flow petcock like a pingle
then cap that off. Get a small rubber cap
you can get them in kits at auto parts stores
put a dab of clear sillycone inside the cap,
slide over the tube and then use a small zip tie
    to hold it down.

Yea, and make sure you get the brass fuel inlet not the plastic one.
Also before installing it make sure its lined up with the fuel line.

I ruined the brass inlet this afternoon trying to get it off the butterfly. Tossed the whole mess into the trashcan. Now I must get a new brass fuel inlet as well. When I ordered the stage 1 upgrade, they had a special sale that included a set of allen bowl screws. I have a gravity flow petcock, early 70's vintage. I'll cap off the vacuum tube.

I took the front pulley and rotor off to get a look at the leaking seal. The oil was as black as ink on the shaft right by the new seal. I don't know what that means. The leak is worse than I thought - there was a small wet spot on the floor after it had dripped off the frame. I really don't know how to fix this - I already replaced the seal and after only a couple minutes running it still leaks.

I don't think so, Johnny. An oil seal is supposed to, well, seal in the oil! If I run it the way it was, I'd have oil all over the left side of the motorcycle, my pants leg, the belt, clutch, ect., ect.

I saw in the J&P catalog yesterday that there is a special oil seal you can get for open belt drive shovel primaries. Whereas the normal oil seal is only $3, the special one is $40. I guess I'm going to get one and try it. I also found out that a brass fuel inlet is another 40 dollar bill. I just absolutely hate all this nickle and diming me to death with one thing after another.

Well, riding season is over as far as I'm concerned. I'm not looking to ride until spring, if ever . . .:cussing::witsend:

This truly is a blood, sweat, tears and beers experience.

J&P catalog. Page 430. They are high flow "n*pples" made by Yost . . . Hmmm . . . actually closer to $50. Holy inflated dollars, Batman!! (Price wise, colder than a witch's teat in a brass brassiere - couldn't resist that!). The plastic ones are $10 on page 461. Should I be looking elsewhere? Where, please?

Oh, I seem to remember seeing one on the CV Performance website - will take a look.

Does the 93 designation mean the carb was built in 1993? Does it even matter when trying to find parts for the CV40 carb?

Thanks for being so patient with me, boys. It's just that now I have to relearn the ins and outs of another carb.

HarleysLR, we got the email glitch fixed and I got the info on the carb. Thanks. Now, I've switched to the CV you sent me a while back.

I have the J&P 2011 catolog and it only shows the 9.95 one. My brother picked one up at the Harley dealer. He got all the rebuild parts which also included a new diaphragm for $86.00.
So not sure what your looking at but yea check Ken out or a Harley dealer or I'll send you one.

Just did a google and found one for $16.95
at Johns Cycle - not saying to use him, just saying, not $50

Click here for instructions on how to change the fuel inlet elbow from plastic to brass

here's your choke so you can mount on the side of the cv $9.95 Same guy for this.

Here's another shovel forum on cv carb conversions. From my research the best way is to get the cv flange from Ebay,
align and mark it so the carb is properly installed, press flange on carb, use some jbweld
to secure it if you like a 50 pilot and 160 to 170 main works well on shovels...

Okay guys, I ordered some parts. I think the only thing left is a choke cable that will work with the bracket and an air cleaner. I'm scouring the net for those . . .

I hope you ordered through Ken and not J&P. Did you check Ken for the cable?

    Per Kens Web site

CVP's billet aluminum choke bracket moves the choke knob conveniently to the top of the carburetor for that custom look. CNC-milled from 6061 billet aluminum and includes stainless steel mounting hardware. Choke assembly not included. Fits all 1989-2006 Big Twin and Sportster models using CV style carburetors.

Works with stock cable assemblies. Requires aftermarket air cleaner assembly. Note that item is hand-polished aluminum (not plated).

Just go to the dealer and get a stock HD choke cable, take the carb make sure you get all the little bits you need.

I know this is going to sound lame, but I can't seem to get to the place where I can just order the dang thing. I guess Ebay doesn't want me to be a member - they keep rejecting all my efforts to buy something! Even when I tried to order it as a guest, it was the same ol' jive.

What "little bits" might those be? Pieces inside the cable? I ordered a blemished billet choke bracket (say that real fast!) for around $10 from CVP today. Cowboy, if you have found a choke cable let me know via PM. Thanks, Josh

Oh, I also found a cool 5 1/2" mesh style air cleaner. I think it will work better than the one I have now by allowing more air in from any direction. Too bad I wasted nearly $200 on the Chopper Dave's air cleaner. I'll have a hard time selling it because it only bolts to a Keihin butterfly carb!
