Yes, 3 separate pieces, engine, primary is were the clutch is, and transmission. takes all three to make it move down the road. Each has it's on oil. unless it's an open primary.

Sense it is dumping oil out the breather it could be overfilled.
Also sounds like more than one issue?

If you just had the engine done and it puking oil, then maybe the breather valve was timed wrong.

Great news, Boys! Btw, I put in only 3 qts. temporarily just to make sure I didn't overfill the oil bag (I did that once before). It'll hold around 3 1/2 qts., maybe a bit more.

Anyway, when I pulled off the front pulley, rotor & stator, I saw 2 teeny weeny holes off to the left behind the stator (see first pic). It was wet around those holes and the stator plug was wet with oil, too (see next pic). There was no indication of oil leaking past the seal - it was dry as a bone! I stuck a toothpick in the holes and it came out wet with oil! The toothpicks went in over a half inch - I suppose they touched the flywheel. It seems that these are thru holes that hold some kind of brace to hold the stator plug from moving around. Nothing about this in the motors manual - not even a picture of the parts.

I'm going to the hardware store to get a couple of machine screws and plug those holes up. I'd bet the farm that's where the oil leaks are!! Waiting for Mac to get home so I can take the cage and fly to Tarboro! EeeeeHaaawww!!!!

Also, the vent stopped puking oil - just the usual mist now. Shovels do puke oil after sitting a long time, but as Tattoo says, it will eventually stop and just mist. He says to get a long piece of hose and let it mist on the rear drive chain to keep it lubed up.

Thanks guys. I'll be going into town tomorrow to get the little buggars. Thanks for the size, Lucifer - I wasn't sure what size they were. I might just get a ride in before Christmas Day!

That length would be if you have the retainer, which I'd recommend picking up too, short term just to plug the holes maybe 1/4"long would do the trick, you don't want them going too far in the case....

I suppose I ought to get the parts from Harley. Would be a special order - 1 week wait. Might as well, since there's no hurry now as there are NEW issues to deal with. Also noticed yesterday when I was idling the beast that smoke was coming up the left side of the motor. My clutch cable was contacting the fins on the rear cylinder - melted the casing right down to the cable, including the protective sheath on the cable. Jeez, if it ain't one thing after another!

Looks like I'll have to get another clutch cable and take the bracket off and modify it so the cable will sit farther away from the cylinder. Aftermarket stuff never fits right . . .

I've also found another leak at one of the front head bolts on the front cylinder. Can't get a torque wrench on it and I can't get it to tighten anymore with a regular wrench. The book says 65 ft. lbs. I hope it's just not torqued down enough. Also, it's possible I might have a blown head gasket. I read in the instructions for breaking the motor in that it can happen during the break in period. I just noticed this new leak the other day when I found oil on the regulator and the plug. I would consider this leak to be significant enough to try to fix. The leak isn't running down the cylinder, but rather is puddling on the head bolt and accumulating on the regulator directly below it . . . . :gah:

Had to edit this post, originally written around 4 AM this morning. Boys, I just want all of you who have helped me with this build to know I couldn't have gotten this far without your help. Thanks for putting up with my dumb mistakes and sometimes dumber questions. I hope you found some comic relief in my little trials.

Previously, I thought I knew what patience & stick-to-it-iveness was all about, (qualities I try to infuse into my students), but then I got this crazy idea to build my own bike! This has been the experience of a lifetime.

Well, Santa was good to me. I got the black denim jacket, as promised, and Mac the Wife got a blue chenille bath robe that she's crazy about. The jacket is a large and fits pretty good. It has armor in the shoulders and elbows, has a zip out liner, and is made in Pakistan. I think it looks pretty cool, too. It's heavy, like a leather one.

Hope all of y'all had a great Christmas!
