The paint/sand/paint idea sounds really good and more economical as well. I'll try that, thanks FLHT. I'm going to use a treated 2x8 laying flat and level with the ground and set the end of the ramp over that. There will be some contact with the ground but that's okay. 2x4's will be treated as well & the plywood will be exterior painted both sides. Should outlast me . . . .

When we were assembling the ramp over at the school shop, I mentioned to the boys that we were doing such a good job that it should outlast me. One said, "Oh no, don't SAY that!" We proceeded to have a little discussion about death and the afterlife. My boys and I can and have talked about anything.

We had just enough primer to paint the top of the ramp. I'm going to Lowe's today and get some more and investigate the possibility of getting some rolled asphalt to cover it. I think that would be better than sand & paint.

The ramp is painted (with sand) and the boys in my shop class are going to help me drop it in tomorrow when school resumes. Also, it's going to get in the upper 60s tomorrow, so it will be a good day for a ride, too.

    Right now it's 24* - crazy weather . . . .

Well, we got the ramp in - I think it's going to work much better than the last one. Also got my new tool bag and mounted it to the risers. No ride today. Scattered showers and wind gusts around 40 MPH. This weekend looks like the next chance to ride . . .

MC, tool bag is from J&P - $30. It's 9" wide & made out of buffalo hide. Best part, it's made in the USA.

Naw, that's how it came. Leather is thick, too.

ya but it will treat the bag & help make it last a long time , any leather for/on my bikes gets treated with saddlesoap or mink oil , I even use it on my leathers , I polish them just like I would my fance shoes/boots , it's cheaper in the long run , kinda like pay me now or pay more later

We have some saddle soap somewhere around here - I'll take your advice, Cowboy, and shine it up. I believe in preventative maintenance.

Mac the Wife got the wood burner for me one Christmas. It works great - only takes the fire 15 minutes or so to warm it up in there. On the coldest days, the exposed metal on the bike will fog up and sweat for awhile. I've learned to just leave it alone until it warms up, too. Buster comes out and keeps me company - I am going to find out this summer if he likes beer!
