Here's yet another little custom touch. Seems like everything on this bike has to be either made up special or modified from something else. I got a choke cable (pic 1) and had to make it several inches shorter to fit the upper motor mount bracket. Then I decided I didn't want to use it. So I fabricated the choke gizmo you see in pic 2 out of some heavy wire. I used an old cable end from a throttle cable and installed it into the choke bracket on the carb. Perfect fit, and tight, too. Pic three shows it installed on the carb in the open position. It works really well. Today I ordered an idle adjustment screw & a mixture screw from John's Motorcycle Parts.

Okay. not sure if it would work for other carbs, though. As far as I know, I'm the only "butterfly" man around these parts!

I made these gaskets & covers for the openings in my inner primary. The gaskets are made of cork, about a 16th of an inch thick. Will they hold the oil in or should I use silicon gasket maker?

    Is she kick start only?
I think those gaskets will work just fine. Just snug up the bolt and use blue thread locker and should be fine.

My kickstart motor was 103 cubic inch with a dead spin setting of 3. It was impossible to kick start. Now it's 93 ci and 0 deadspins. I have kick started it a couple of times but it's still not easy. I only weigh 165 lb's.
You motor is 80 ci so it won't bad at all. Just make sure your electronic ignition is set to zero dead spins. The the number of times the engine revolves before it fires up the coil. Some ignitions are set to 3 deadspins from the factory as to avoid kick back on start-up.
Are you running points and condensor type or electronic?

My motor is 74 cu.in., (1200cc) & I'm running points/condensor. Double fire coil. It's the stock set up for that year (1977). I think "dead spin" referes to electronic ignition only? In the past (a very long time ago), I would kick a few times with the ignition off/gas petcock on to "clean it out". Then turn on the ignition and start it. If it's tuned & timed right, it should start in one or two kicks, maybe more. I weigh 140 and never had trouble kicking one before. That's because the compression was only about 8.5 to 1, the way this motor is.

Sounds like you got a handle on it. pump the throttle twice and kick twice with ignition off to prime the motor. Then turn ignition on and kick again to start. Should fire right up if timing and points are set up right.
    Good luck.
Yes deadspin is related to electronic ignition only.
