Checked out the forum and on ebay but didn't come up with anything - :mad:Talked to my mech and he said he was lookin into a used one for me - :)Hope he can find it - money is tight and spending my saved up long haul money now will shorten my road trips considerable next year.:gah:
I did contact my insurance company and file a claim which was suggested by the shop manager and they are in the process of going thru it; since it was a raod hazard that started the whole thing, so maybe they'll pay some or all of the bill- one can only hope.:D
I believe the whole problem started when I hit a large pothole in a construction zone on one of our many torn up roads around here. It appears to to have loosen the rear axle and then started grindin away at the arms on both sides. Got a few pics of the damage that I'll throw in to see if anybody has had a similar problem like this. In any event the shop sat me up with a payment plan so I can stretch out the bill and not have to worry about the (National Debt) I ain't feds so I can't print up my own to pay the bills.:roflmao:

Yah - it's not something I would like to think about dealin with when going thru the twisties on the Dragon or dodgin a cager in heavy traffic. And the best part is the OL's support for gettin it done right. Guess she plans on keepin me around for around 40 years or so.:roflmao::roflmao:
Probably will hear from the insurance adjuster Mon or Tues and will know when BLU is going to done so I can get it home before the snow flys.:D

Sarge7, there is one of the largest used HD parts stores in the country right here in Portland. Latus Motors Salvage yard. They got tons of used stuff there.

Here is Latus motors main store number 1.877.468.7584, sorry I don't have the Salvage store number but if you call the main store ask for parts they can get you the Salvage stores number. They are closed Monday's

Got the call from my mech today and he dropped the bad news on me that the total would be around 1800 clams - my depends went into overdrive tryin to hold everything :D- about 30 minutes later the ins adjuster calls and tells me that my ins will be pickin up 50% of the tab:) so my heart finally got back to normal after crunchin the numbers I think I might be able to make those road trips next spring after all.;) The OL is being very supportive on this issue and I'm just wondering what the final tab is going to be. She's been hintin about a trip to Hawaii again; so I ain't out of the woods yet.:roflmao::roflmao:

OK heres what you do, I did this on a buddies 98 that busted the tube based old style swingarm three years ago, you'll save a ton of bucks

    1) File the claim and get the check, then,

    2) Go to Fat Baggers web site and order a used 03 and up (upgraded) swingarm, it will come with the swing arm and the new axle, they have all kinds of take offs, there is nothing to wear out on the new swing arms.

    3) get on the boards, pick up a matching wheel and sprocket for 02 and up FLH models, should be inexpensive, also get a new style rear brake caliper due to the changed mount (you'll get rid of the single piston big ass ugly one you have for a nice dual piston rear and more brake power)

    4) FBI kit will come with or you order new cleve blocks they are drilled and machined from billet and you tell them you are putting the new swing arm on the old evo bike and the cleves will come machined to fit the swing arm and the different pivot shaft, this will allow the fit to work.

    5) get new 3 ring black donuts (isolators) for the pivot shaft,

do all this and you'll find you have a better riding bike, stiffer rear
    and no wobbles...

You can look for someones take off air shocks too and improve the ride...

Probably cost you lest than a grand total including labor....

Got the insurance end takin care of - but now we are waiting for the new swingarm to come in.
Mech couldn't find a used one so we ordered a new one from HD - only problem is it's back ordered 6 to 8 weeks. Which means it won't be ready until after the first of the year. But with the weather being what it is right now I'm not cryin to much. At least come spring I know I'll be ready for some road time.
The only down side I can't go out and hug BLU till I git it home. Wouldn't be manly ya know to let the shop guys see me doing something like that.:roflmao::roflmao: They might get the impression I was from Texas.:D

Thought about it - Was reading a report on Military.com that listed the 10 best places in the states for military retirees and I think Texas had like 4 or 5 or the best ones - Austin -Waco and the Metro Huston area. Maybe this summerthe OL and I will take a ride that way and check it out. I know I'm getting sick and tired of staying inside all winter, can't go out cause of the breathing poblems I've got - the cold weather and my lungs don't get along at all.:gah:

Arizona may be a good climate for you. Got friends who moved down to Prescott Valley AZ and they love it, very moderate temps.

My roller came with a slightly used rear HD Dunlop (5.50) and an avon (3.50) front tire. The Avon loses a little air just sitting around. When I got the roller home I noticed that the rear tire had a daggone plug in it! When I am up and running will these tires be a problem? Should I just buy new tires fore and aft before going out on my maiden voyage?

A new set of skins is cheap insurance considering the options. Med airlifts are very costly and the pain lasts a lot longer than the one in your wallet will. Of all the things that can go wrong on your ride - this is a easy fix and peace of mind. With winter doggin us now would be a good time to change out and shop around before you do - a lot of stores are runnin specials at this time of year. J&P cycles is one and there are many others also.:)
