I been thinking about those tires a lot. every now and then I have to push my bobber to the school shop where I work (only a block away thank God) to pump both tires up. That's because I don't have a tranny or primary yet. The front Avon is rated at 42 psi and I usually have to put in 15 psi or more to top it off. I'm going to go with a retro style tread on both tires when I replace them as they would match the theme of the bike and they will not be Avons! I'll post photos soon . . . JohnnyBiker is helping me with my stone age computer.

SOUND advice about the pipes! Mine will have mufflers. I see a lot of builders use straight pipes, but I plan on taking longer trips than just to the local pub. And I'm going to order some new skins from J&P. Couldn't find much in a retro tread design, so I'm going with a pair of Dunlops with a more modern tread. Good enough for Harley; I figure they'll be ok.

Cowboy my last stock Dunlap for the new rear fat tire. I got just under 15,000 and a buddy of mine also got about the same. WE don't ride em easy either.
I personally don't like the Venoms. Had a set on a bike and never could wear them out....they cracked and split first.

Sounds like there useing a better tire grade ,Mine was the 130/16 , My Brother was running the stock dunlops on his 98 ultra classic & getting about the same 5-6 k miles he's on his first set of metzlers & love them this past summer they rode from Alb Nm up to canada & back & he told me that he should have listen to me years ago on the tires ,They put about 6kmiles on that ride & two up & loaded down & he was real pleased with the were & handling over the dunlops , he said with the dunlops he would have to had a tire put on the rear on the road & said he kept checking the rear & was very happy about not loose time & half a day of riding waiting to have it put on

Cowboy the Metz tires are OK as long as you don't get the Brazilian made one. They didn't hold up to well.
My old HD had those same stock tires as yours and only got the best was 8,000. Not to impressed, I ran the Elite 2 and 3's that had deeper tread and got much better mileage out of em. Not a bad tire either.

Any help is better than none! For an educator, I'm really a DA when it comes to hi-tech stuff. I have been dragged against my will kickin' 'n' screamin' into the 21st century, and even the last part of the 20th! Heck, I have over 900 45 rpm records (most from the 50's) that I prefer to play over the cold CD's. Each one is a little piece of history. I like the occasional pop & click in the grooves. There's a ritual involved spinnin' the ol' wax, too . . . like kickin' over an old bike . . .

I know whatcha mean. Mac (the wife) thinks I'm losing my hearing. Well, I am 67 I tell her, but she sez it's "selective hearing loss", usually when she's talking!

I strongly deny this syndrome to Hot Rider. She just does not believe me.

Sarge7, Has your swingarm come in yet? Have you seen Blu's progress lately? I took my wheels in (not to HD) to get my Avons & new inner tubes put on. They are also going to true and rebalance them and replace a couple of rusted spokes on the rear wheel.

Blu's in a local shop - I wouldn't take my ride into either HD shop here in town. Year before last my tranny took a dump on me 300 feet from the dealers front door and they charged me $300 just to push it in - then tryed to hold me up for 1400 for tranny repairs. Got my BIL's trailer and we loaded it up and took it to my local shop - came out of there with andrews gears installed for $800. Some of these HD stealers should live in Somaila for the prices they charge.
Still waitin for the parts to come in but I don't mind cause the weather is not helping a bit so if it takes another 2 or 3 weeks to finish up I'll still get it back in time for some serious riding in the spring.:D
