Grrrr . . . I will NOT get a haircut :roflmao:. Matter of fact, I'm letting it grow looong again, like in the old days.;)

Okay, my friends, I got an e-mail back today and the best the seller will do is go 50/50 on an entire motor rebuild with Pure Evil Performance. On one hand, he legally doesn't have to do anything. But on the other hand, I shouldn't have to pay any more for a motor that should have been done right to start with. NOTE: If I have PEP do the rebuild, I will take the motor up myself and talk to the guys up there and see their setup.

Any feedback on this before I make my decision? Another thing is he won't do the rebuild with any one but PEP. I have checked them out and they have a solid reputation.

Well, you remember my tranny troubles? I really felt good about how my indy fixed me up after missinstalling a c-clip. I advertise for him whenever I can. A smart bussines man knows how important it is to back up his product. Got my fingers crossed for you. 'Probably should have reported the very start(minute) of trouble to him. May have saved you all this heartache. A lesson learned !

Exactly how much is the rebuild (that you already paid for once) going to cost you now/again? Hopefully not another $4,500~!

Not too much, I expect. The seller is picking up half the tab. Probably looking at a valve job, new cam and related parts, cylinder hone and new rings. Beyond that, I don't know yet. I will ask that they inspect the entire motor.

I'm calling PEP (Pure Evil Performance) for an estimate today.

So..PEP did the actual re-build for a customer(the people you bought it from),Right? So they seem to be the one's responsible for the shody work, right? So they should make it right for you, no charge. It's thier reputation that's on the line. JMO

I think you are confused or maybe I am.
PEP didn't do the original work. Where did you read that?

    I believe so.
Had a guy, fired him (or so they say).
JB what is the name of that shop that sold you the $4,500.00 F-d-up motor?

In that case, the shop that sold JB the motor IS respnsible. It's HIS rep. that's on the line. We all need to know who this bstrd is. We have to do nation-wide advertising for him.

No, PEP did not do the original rebuild. The seller fired the guy who was doing the bad work and my motor was one of those. PEP is his new rebuilder and as I've said earlier, these guys have a good rep. They build all sorts of street and racing engines for Harleys as well as cars, etc.

I don't know the name of the shop who did the original work on the motor. It was in a different state than the sellers business was.

And no way in Hell am I gonna send my motor back to THEM to "make it right". I don't know where they are, anyway. I don't think it's the sellers fault here - it's the shop he hired to rebuild his motors. When he started getting a lot of complaints, he investigated and found one of the mechanics was doing shoddy work. Who knows where he is now.

Well it's better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick
50/50 vs zero on work you were going to have done
anyway at 100% out of pocket.

I agree not sending it back, is the seller an
individual that sold you the engine as done up
by another shop or a business that sells
    old iron engines.... Just curious...

The seller is a business that sells Harley parts, engines, and so on. He finds and buys motors at swap meets and sends them off to be rebuilt and then sells them. My motor came with a title, so it was easy to register it when the time came.
I think he is trying to help me, although I did express the sentiment to him that I felt that I shouldn't have to pay out any more money. I'll take what I can get and cut my losses - I don't see any other way . . .

The week of the 12th, I'll drive up to PEP with the motor and drop it off, talk with the guys there, and check the shop out.

I have been having a run of luck that can only be described as no luck at all. I had to send my prescription goggles back to be repaired twice because the bezels kept splitting. This time, they went all the way back to the factory where they reground new lenses and fitted them out with a new frame as well. I only had to pay the postage to get them there, about $5.

Well, boys, it's Friday. I was out in my shop looking at all the work I've yet to do to get the motor out of the frame. Guess I'll eat some supper and drink a few beers and watch TV for awhile. The motor can wait . . . .

Sounds like a stupid way to operate a business.
IMHFO, He is responsible to provide you with 100% of what you paid for.
    Good luck.
