I still have (and wear) a tshirt that says "I rode my bike to trailer week"...and has a pic of a motorcycle on a trailer with a slash through it (like a street sign saying NO parking/etc). Love it...some people do NOT find humor in it.....to them I say "well, I ride my bike, don't always look pretty OR clean, but I ride it. Do you??".... they normally leave.

I always say if you can't stand the heat ride it.

For those people who don't enjoy to ride their bikes for distance either they are riding for the wrong reasons or they are riding the wrong bike.
I have been riding since the 60's. I have to admit I did trailer my bike once.
The reason was for bringing more then my bike to Las Vegas in my 85 Conquesta El Camino. The Mrs. and I had other items to bring with us and I wanted to ride on a long weekend.
I was living in L.A. at the time. I have ridden my bike into Mexico and not just over the border. If anybody knows Mexico we went down to San Phelipe for a long 4 day weekend. I have to say it was one of the best rides I ever went on. There were 25 bikers with wives and girlfriends. Some of the ladies had their own bike too.
When we hit the border and crossed over into Mexico 3 cops on their bikes took charge. Holding two fingers up and then a thumb pointing to the right.
Now I must say that some people were getting a bit uneasy. So one of the ladies we were riding with went to the front and spoke spanish and asked "what the problem was". The cops said no problemo, all they wanted to do was to get us all through town safely. So if you have ever seen a funeral, it was exactly like that. One cop held up traffic at each cross street.

By the time we went through town these cops wanted to come with us down to San Phelipe for the Baja 250. They had just as much a blast as we did blowing through town without stopping.

People always say to me they would never take their bikes into Mexico. They say that they are affraid of losing their bikes or just getting killed.
All I can say to those people is get a pair of webbos and enjoy life.
It was the best 4 days in Mexico I have ever had. Everyone has fond memories of that weekend. We still talk about it to this day. When we do we all have smiles on our faces. If you go to another country and encounter another culture. You treat it and them with respect and you will get the same in return.
In fact there are some here in Las Vegas now that are planning a trip to Mexico. I am hopeing I will be able to join them.
So ride it and enjoy it and see the country. Feel and smell those smells you would never smell in a box. You have a bike so use it to it's fullest. Life is to short not to enjoy what you do. GUMBY PEACE ;)

    Trailer week t-shirt

    AFNurse,
I would love to find that t-shirt. We have a swap meet coming up in Charlotte in Nov. maybe I can find one there. I have been looking for a sticker for my lid and am unable to find it either. The shirt would have been great at the Myrtle Beach rally this past weekend.
Hey CD, does DP have a clothing section?
    Thanks

I'd rather ride but there are times I trailer, yep I own one, and it's hauled many a friend and myself out of jams.

Flat tires on the road, no open shops on a sunday, Buddy loads my trailer up and brings it up, on the road home

    Broken Rod - trailer home

Other misc broken parts, wrecked bikes etc trailer works great.

It's been great when I don't have time to ride up somewhere out of state or theres multple people going , or if I'm on a family vacation, I've used it to haul the bike so I can ride when the family stuff isn't going on.

So don't hang all of us trailer guys out there with the posers

ALso I know of a lot of people that trailered down from the North to Daytona becuase the weather was so bad no way you could have ridden.

I am trying not to lump everyone into that group....infact, I have been LOOKING at buying a trailer sometime.... not sure what to get/how much to pay. I am active duty military, and get to move every 3 years or so, trailer COULD come in handy for PCS. Also been a few times that I would like to have the bike for some "local riding" while on family vaction.... can't in good concious ride the bike to family vaction while wife and daughter driving/riding in the car...supposed to be family time. If found 1 on line that breaks down by using pins...all told, fits into space about the same size as a golf bag. Like the idea, don't like the 1600$ they want for it. Like the price of the 300$ trailer that I can make work for a few more $$ from Harbor Freight, but not very compact when not in use...and I don't have much storage space.... I am stuck between that rock and hardplace on this issue. The ones I think are so funny are the people that are GOING TO A MOTORCYCLE RALLY (sturgis, daytona, etc) with their big fancy truck or car pulling their big fancy bikes...so they can ride the 3 miles from the motel/campground to the "action", then ride back in the evening.... I respect those that RIDE to the rally, then RIDE at the rally, then RIDE home...baring breakdown and such.

my turn to chime in on the trailer thing. i have done my share of sleeping on roadside picnic tables.....fighting fireants in tents....scorpions...ect... i built a trailer to haul 2 dressers with 2 beds in the front, ac/heat..and a table. nothing fancy, just an enclosed trailer with a short wall between me and the bikes....can see them while eating a dry bread sandwich!!!:) been on the road since 67......now is the time to enjoy it.....i still do between 15/20k a year. but when doing rallys or long stints out of state i trailer....cheaper rates than motels also.....

    Trailers

Hey dont get me wrong trailers have a place. I often, when I am working out of town, load my bike along with my tools so I can ride where I am going to be. And it has also fetched many a broken down friend, and occasionally a broken Bear. But I don't trailer it and then get drunk and ride around the campground at Buffalo Chip. Or get a Motel 35 miles out of Daytona so I can "ride" in. Some use a trailer as another tool in thier tool bag....some use it as a crutch.

    Ride Free............

    Hey Chuck

Don't get me wrong. I agree to what you are saying. It is the people that won't take that 200 mile ride because their bike will get dirty. I am with you on that toy box idea. There is always a time and a place for everything.
I would always rather sleep under the stars right next to my bike in a comfotable setting. Motel 6 does not impress me at all. That is a great set up you have. GUMBY PEACE

I have a kendon 2 bike standup trailer, it's been well worth the investment, it's light enough that you can swing it up on the back end and stand it in the corner of the garage and sturdy too, the height is low so loading is easy, and it has the front wheel chock so you don't have to stand there holding bike while someone else ties it down.

They are not cheap but they are not the most expensive game in town, find a used one, they usually are less but not a lot less.

They have a single bike trailer as well.

I've hauled two full FL size bikes or just one bike and it pulls perfect.

    Yeppers

I sold a single before moving out here. I bought it from a friend who stepped up to an enclosed trailer. If I was to get a trailer. I would want one that I could sleep in. Like a small toy box for 2 bikes. I first have to upgrade my El Camino. I have a sweet 85 Conquesta, top of the line fully loaded. It has a 305 in it now with 285 grand on the engine and trans. Never had to do any major work to it. I just rebuilt the entire front end. The funny thing was I didn't have a spring compressor. So for the alinment and springs I brought it to a shop I use.
He had to charge me an x-tra $50 because he broke 2 compressors on my springs. I have a heavy duty front end in this baby and heavy duty springs. He told me that this front end can hold up to a 409 engine....hmmmmmm.
So within the next few months I am going to put a mild 350 in it. This way I can trailer anything I want. After I do that job I am going for a boat. Nothing big or new. Just a party boat because we are only 10 min. from lake mead.

Tha Camino is all set up for towing. It came with a tow package in 85. So now I have to hit a casino for a big win. Then I will be all set. I will let you know when that happens. Someone has to win the big one. Why not either me or the Mrs..... GUMBY PEACE:cool:
