I could have been like CB and said I only Mobile1 cause it's the best oil but then we know what that would have started.
I really doubt it was because Red Line was used. Other contributing factors had to be in play. Red Line is a good oil and many riders been using it.

I have been using Redline for several years without issue. I thought you were being sarcastic but I must confess, I lost my faith for a few minutes! Ha!

Was this your ride? What size heart and type of bike and rider? Looks like a lot of torque applied.

Bike has about 38,000 on it.

The INdy mechanic that has been workin on Harleys for about 40 yrs. And now his son is in the business with him.
Said he has seen less problems with Syn3 oil and Castrol RS V-twin 4T 20-50 oil over the years.

    But run whatever you want.
    Everybody has their favorite oil.
Because he will be working on the bikes whatever you use.

The dude is a Amsoil Dealer and runs amsoil in his motor and redline in his primary.

But after advice from a long time friend, hes gonna go with Castrol from now own.

Everybody is a mechanic and has a degree in Oil.
And a Oil thread can go on forever.

I used to listen to the engineers at Amsoil when they talked to me.
And I ran it in my last 2 bikes.

Used nothing but HD Syn 3.
Not had a problem one out of the motor or primary, or tranny

That's confirming my point, lot of bs from people either bitching or wrenches giving info out without an once of real knowledge on oil design or properties other than a few problems They have seen.

Nobody out there is making oil Cassini these problems

HD has a bad compensator design, have two friends with the knocking one running a SE the other stock HD , neither run either of the oils listed here, it's a design issue period

So what and I can say I have been using Mobile1 in my Harleys for years with no problem. Even ran clear back to the East coast to DC in 2010. We put somewhere between 8000 and 8800 miles and I did one oil change in DC. Oil looked really good. Weather was real hot in August. Bike ran good for a long time. Traded it in on a new 2012 CVO and it's still running strong to this day.
You know who makes SYN3 and why Harley is buying it. Well it was the lowest bid to be the supplier to make oil for Harley. Citco was the supplier the last time I heard. Yea, they go by bid CB not who makes the best oil.
That's right you use what you like and everybody can use what they like. I normally change mine out every 3,000 miles just cheap insurance.

I agree that it's a bad compensator design. And maybe the guy who rode the bike is a thrasher - certainly looks like it. There are other issues with Harley designs, like the built-in leaking main seal in the 4 speed tranny.

    I don't think it's an oil issue.

If it's an oil issue,it wouldn't be the brand but the amount....too little =too hot
