Aelen Ness and his big sucker kit with a K&N filter will allow you to reach the EZ adj screw without a problem

I dont think it's 7/16, that's huge. I think it's 7/32's, Yes, it just cleans out the burrs in the hole in the slide.
I thought long and hard about using the drill bit that comes with the kit. I was aware of the slide problem if the hole is drilled to big.
Ken designed the kit to work as a unit. If he says to do the drilling with his bit and use his lighter spring, then I will.
I have never seen the bike run as good. It never ran bad, just had a few things that could have been better. A bit of hesitation off idle and a small stutter at cruise.
After the kit and setting it up as the directions told me to. The bike was a total different beast. The hesitation and stutter were gone, the throttle responce was so much better and smoother, and the increase in overall power was fantstic. I couldn't believe that the few bucks I spent made such a change in the bike.
I would reccomend Ken's kit to anyone who thinks there carb needs to be replaced. I think if they try the kit they won't need to buy an after market carb.
They will be very pleased with what the kit does.

I got tired of burning my knuckles and fingers trying to adjust that quick adjust also. I used a piece of vinyl tubing that fits over the knurled screw head... Caution ...vinyl melts. Keep it off of the pipe shielding and remove after use.

I just installed the kit on my 96 fatboy and am very pleased, seems to be much smoother and has more power. My gas mileage also improved. Now i just have to find the electrical short that is haunting me.
    Great info on these forums.

You can't...and they don't tell you that when you buy it...I've looked into a custom air cleaner so I can get my hand under to adjust the screw, but then you have to rejet it...LOL...more money..

stock cover that's right but check post #21.

The motor company SEALS that screw, it's not supposed to be
touched at all, EPA, FED's, Obamagreenphites etc will charge your home
take your bike, and check all pillows and mattresses for tags.

So drilling it out, you've modified and that means
you should be looking for a better filter system
    and probably slip on mufflers.

So I buy a Keihin CV 40mm Carb

    Hi Guys

I'm so new to carb upgrades.

Tell me if you will and bring me to school on KEIHIN CV 40mm's.

So I buy a used/rebult or new one.

Do i still have to buy an upgrade kit for the KEIHIN

Is there more than one KEIHIN to replace my '85 butter fly carb :banghead:

Lastly just what do I need other than the CV KEIHIN to replace me ol' carb

Thanks & GOD bless you all :chopper:

depends on the bike and you.

A stock CV is good but putting in Kens Kit helps,
Setting the Air screw is necessary because HD
has to set it super lean at the factory for EPA

You can make it better by opening it up,
resetting the screw and putting in a slightly larger
pilot jet and new needle tends to improve them

    Hey Hotroadking

Let me see if I'm reading you right if you will allow me.

    1. I buy the HEIHIN CV 40mm Carb.
    2. Then buy the rejetting kit for it to ENLAGER the JETS ~ YES/NO

    3. Would the attachment pics of H-D CV Carb be the one for my '85 Classic

How many jet would I need if I'm to rejet the HEIHIN CV 40mm

    Thanks
    GOD BLESS

    Yes and no....

You might not need anymore than a larger main jet, one size.

I would get the carb, drill out the air bleed screw cover (factory seal)
install it and set the air screw, about 2.5 turns out.

See how it runs. Then tune to the engine based on
your bikes needs. It might (most do because of EPA) need
a one size larger pilot (or slow) jet...

Main should be fine, there is no EPA regulation over WOT...

Schooner, the kit comes with an assortment of jets. The instructions tell you what to start with and how to tell if changes need to be made.

I'm Still Somewhat CONFUSED Dorn It

    [To Fxdxriderleo & Guys

First of all let me give you were in the world I am with my '85 butterfly carb and bike.

Right now my bike it HANGING-up on an engine lift. With all of its body parts off the bike. Due to the fact I just got finished 400grit sanding 'em in order for the painter to paint it.

Engine is still on frame; so is the 1985 butterfly carb.

    Now that being said.
Fxdzriderleo please let me know what kind of jet kit your talking about to this NEWBIE please. I assume that even after I buy the HEIHIN I have to buy a jetting kit also

Second, from what you great guys are telling me only two kinds of CV Carbs should be replacing my ol' butterfly carb. And that is: HEIHIN & S&S

I'm leaning towards the HEIHIN CV 4MM CARB.
Now please straighten me out on my confusiion as such: KEIHIN was made in and around 1986/'87 and production stopped in the 90's I believe please correct me on these dates.

But what this NEWBIE don't understand is; if HEIHIN stopped production on their CV 40mm carb. How in the world can I get a new one when I ready to buy one :banghead:

Please have patients with this ol' man :gah:

P.S. Jump in guys please :)

there are still new carbs out there as replacements for old carbs,

BTW you might find a good used one, that is the ticket, it's cheaper
and not much to go wrong with them..

As far as jets , get the CV tuning kit from Ken at CV Performance Motorcycle Products

he is on this board (owns it in fact) and it will have the stuff you need jets etc, and you can get CV jets at any indy shop, hd dealer etc.
