I would keep a close eye on mine after the second belt broke. I was always checking the alignment and tension. One thing I learned. If your bike feels like the tranny slipped when you are cruising, get off and check your belt for missing or torn teeth. I felt that on three of the belts I had to replace. I know a lot of people who have had no problems with their belt. I am really glad for them..At $200 a pop and the maintenance to change them, it is not something I look forward to. Well good luck to you on yours. And good riding. I'm sitting here writing this only 35 miles from Daytona Bike Week and my bike is on a lift out in my garage waiting for my sprockets to come in. But that's life and riding.

There are so many ponds and lakes around here you just need to walk up and fish them. I like to bass fish. I just shore fish or wade about chest deep and fish. I have taken several bass over 10 lbs. from these small ponds. Last year I was lucky enough to weigh in a 13lb. 7 ounce bass. It was beautiful. But seriously, most of the lakes around here are too small for boats or they wont let you on the lake with a boat. Or you will see a sign that says no boat launching. Besides, I don't need a boat I have a sportster!

Thedalt, lived in the sunshine state from 1958-1976 St. Pete and Brooksville. I liked the fishing too but enjoyed getting out in the Gulf the best. Always liked the fact you could ride year round. In the late 60's early 70's helped get the Groom off road riding area at Brooksville opened as a State Park and it's still going today. The retired New Yorkers and the high humidity encouraged me to leave the state and now I live in Arizona best move I ever made. Dutch

That's a hell of a coincidence. My wife and I are talking about moving somewhere in Arizona. I'm Florida born and raised and my wife is from Mississippi . But, you're right man, the state has changed a lot. Most of it wasn't for the good if you enjoy fishing and hunting. Most of the lakes and ponds have become private property or some housing conglomerate throws up a fence around it and you have to own property there to get into it. But, I still try. I want to move out where there is still some open land to look at. We both love the four corners area anyway. The fishing is starting to pick-up on the coast and they are already catching some nice bass in the lakes. The temp was only 35 this morning though. I'm sitting here writing this and listening to all the bikes going down the road to Bike Week. We are only about 35 miles from there. It looks like they may have some decent weather this year. It has already warmed up into the High 60's since this morning. And the sun is out and the sky is clear. Great day to be on 2 wheels.. Good hearin' from ya. Hope your out riding while I type this.

    Sporty Fishing

I live out in the middle of a game reserve at the end of a five mile dirt road, and it's around fifteen miles to town from my place. We have a fishing pond about a quarter mile from the house but after Florida fishing it's like catching bait so I go swim once and a while that's about it. Things are still pretty much open here if you do come to a gate you leave it the way you found it open or closed. Dutch

That sounds beautiful man. the kind of riding we've been looking for. I was taught that as long as I respected the other mans property and kept it clean, it would be there to use the next time I went.. But, that is not the truth anymore. Some people just plain don't want you anywhere around what they own. I've always packed out what I took in. And hardly ever keep any of the fish that I catch. I just enjoy being out there and being able to do it. But, it keeps getting harder to find people who will let you fish on a lake that used to be public but, because of a couple of new houses that go up,it's now private. But, I keep tryin and hopin. It's for sure we are coming the Arizona way in a couple of years. Keep the wheels down and ride safe

Arizona sounds pretty nice, wonder all the california folks havent bought it up like they have colorado Here in the carolinas its people from new jersy and new york that move here because its so much better than new jersey and new york then immediately try to change things to what they left. Go figure. Not a lot of open land left no hunting no fishing signs are everywhere. And folks like PETA (the save bambi ones not People Enjoying Tasty Animals) are actively attempting to turn hunting into a thing of the past. Sad thing...... Ride Free

It seems like the first thing people want to do when they move to a new place is to try to make it just like where they left. No one seems to want to take their time and enjoy the newness of a place. It can really be exciting if you relax and enjoy it. Most of the time, we don't even know where we are when we ride. Who cares. The ride is all the enjoyment you need. there aren't many places left here to hunt and fish without someone giving you some kind of lip. And almost all of them are from out of state. It would be great if they moved here and then left it the way it was when they moved here. But the first thing they do is to cut all trees and have the land completely cleared off. But, that is life. We are planning on moving into the 4 corners area in a couple of years. I was there in the service in the early 70's and then again in the 80's. I really fell in love with the desert. I really felt good there. And free spaces everywhere. I love riding all the small towns. Well, goota get back to work. Ride safe and enjoy things.

Y'all are right about AZ. That's been a plan "B" of mine for years. If working here in TX as a Game Warden (when I retire form the USAF) don't pan out for some reason, I've wanted to try livin' out around the Flagstaff area. I also have come to really appreciate the NW part of New Mexico...ain't nuthin' out there. Go figure for me to like somethin' like that. Now THAT would be some ridin'...better take along a 2 gallon can with ya!

    Old Riders In Arizona

I lived in Abilene, Texas for a couple of years visiting with my brother. We had a blast riding there. But the cops have some strange laws they can you against you if they want. Like the public intoxication law. If the arresting officer thinks you have been drinking, then you have been drinking. He doesn't have to allow for a blood or breath test. It is strictly his word against you. I ran into this one night pushing the 72 sporty home a couple of miles after work that night. Hadn't had one drink, just pulled 14 hours and wanted nothing but sleep. But it seems my voltage regulator had other ideas. As I was pushing the bike I saw the cop car coming so I thought I'd see if he had a set of jumper cables, I had freed the regulator points up, but he said put your hands on the hood, you're under arrest for public intoxication. No test no proof nothing. I spent the next three days throwing hay onto a trailer on some farm. What a trip. But, I really met some cool people there too. And some of the hottest riding I have ever done. Learned a lot about me and the bike that trip. But hey, if you ever get there look me up. We're gonna get there. I think I need the solitude for awhile. used to get it here, now you get run over by a sand or log truck if you slow down below 70 mph. You take care man. Enjoy the game warden gig. I met one here that helped me with some poachers. He was pretty cool. He stops by once and awhile to ask if I've had any more trouble and we talk awhile. Keep ridin'.

I had a friend got out of the service and moved back to Oregon. He said they had short riding seasons there. But, he said the scenery and country you rode through was well worth the wait and anticipation. It's all what you make it. And as long as your'e ridin', it's all good. Enjoy it all. It's only here once.

    Good roads

I've just been in NC since Sep, but the roads here are generally good, should be for $.48/gal gas tax!

I ride to work as much as possible, 11 miles one way to base. Have gotten some weekend riding but I'm laid up for a few weeks following stomach surgery. Sux, the weather is just getting really nice too!!
My wife just got her Low Rider in Feb so we should get a lot of road time this yr. Kids love riding too, so it's a bonus.

I know just what you mean. I rode there for 2 yrs and you need eyes all around yer head. A friend was killed in '01 by a teenager making a U-turn in front of him.
What's the percentage of drunk drivers these days? Safety folks always said 3 of 5, 4 of 10, or some crazy number on the road were DWI. With the tourists in n out of there I don't doubt it.

Enjoy the ride, wherever you may be!!

Now It's A Give And Take Relationship With Mother Nature, She Gives I Take. In The Past 7 Years I Lived In Baton Rouge, Baytown,tx. Tucson, Now Spokane. Each Place Has It's Own Great Ride'in. It's Just Great To Ride Wherever The Roads Are, And Wherever They Take You!
