To many big bad Grizzles in Jellystone. We got chased out of our tent site one year by a Grizz and the camp host would not let us camp there any longer with a tent. There are some great locations in South Dakota and some really good places to ride to. Jellystone also has a lot of stupid tourist there and the roads get jammed up, especially if they have that darn yearly road construction. I change my vote from after to before. But where ever you want it. I know Cardboard won't come but has Chuck said yes or no?

I like the idea of having it before Sturgis as well, but prefer not to run into the crazy crap with thousands of bikes, doesn't seem to be much fun having to hyper attentive for other people.. JMO

Ya know that there will be HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of bikes riding in from all over the country the week before, which means EVERY road in South Dakota will be clogged. Are you sure you want to contend with that?

I've been there several times, and there are'nt many choices of roads when you get to within 300 miles of Sturgis. I'm telling you, traffic will be a bear that week because people are crazed about getting there early.

I am not in disagreement on this at all. I think for everyone's safety we may want to push it up or push it back.

I can start a new poll as well, hopefully we can get some newer members to chime in???

Holy crap Alex, sounds like the end of the world. With that attitude do you ever leave the house??? I've been to Sturgis 4 times and I have never seen it that bad. maybe a little traffic jam coming into deadwood from the south or obviously mainstreet but - everywhere within a 300 mile radius???

It aint that bad. I was there on the 60th aniversary and I survived. Last year was the 70th so this year should be off a bit from that prolly. That's all part of the fun anyway. All the crazy people.

Yes Rally dates for next year are:

    August 6th thru 12th, 2012 (72nd Anniversary Sturgis Rally)

I'm in for prior to the rally,
I've been there every year for the past 10 years, and back into the 90's, The week prior is a good time, it does start to get busy toward the end of that week. Prices start to go up as well. Yes there are a few traffic jams. Getting in to Deadwood is difficult at times as is going into Sturgis via LaSalle St.. If you know your way around it ain't to bad. Sunday thru Wednesday are the busiest times, it starts to die down after that. A lot of stuff closes up on Sunday right after the rally and the big clean up is in process and attitudes are starting to show.
I probably won't stay in Spearfish. I'm not a camper, I'll find me a nice motel. Depending on where headquarters is going to be. I plan to be there for 2 - 5 days, again just depends on things. I get bored pretty easily.

Don't know what I got going on that far away.
Know I didn't git to do any kind of vacation or anniversary with my wife this year.
We are trying to pay bills down so we can have a little breathin room.
My Ol would like to move up here with me and see me more.
That would require more money in the bank.

Lots of good motels in Spearfish. If we make it, it will be in the motorhome due to the sick cat of my wifes, needs its meds 3 times a day. Wife almost lost her this spring but dumped a bunch of money in her again and she's doing better. Darn cat takes more pills per day than I do. So we would be camping. I know don't say it the wife really loves her cat.
