    Yep !
My air conditioner is like 21 yrs old.
Got a neighbor that had a heat pump putin and his electricity bill cut in half.
And he keeps his home cooler than me in the summer , and warmer than me in the winter.
I sweat in the summer , and feeeze in the winter.

    No natural gas here.
    And propane is high.

No our house is 1990 square feet, it's been cold and wet which adds to the heat use.

Heat pumps work great in southern states, can't see how they save in the cold weather states, below 32*. They use electric heat when in defrost, and colder weather puts them in defrost more often. Thats JMO as I only been installing and srvicing these things for about 35 years. I s*** if my bill was $300 a month. But then again I don't know anything about heating oils used up north or the price of natural gas up there. Gas heat is the better option in my area.:D

Cardboard, I'am not telling you not to go with a heat pump. You said your house was all electric with no gas. With that situation a heat pump is more efficient than straight electric heat. As far as doing it yourself, unfortunately you have to have a refrigerant certification to purchase a/c equipment (central equipment that is, you can buy window bangers of course and possibly a package unit because they are precharged with refrigerant):D

man thats high, don't think you get much hotter than us in the summer. Is your house insulated? With todays energy cost that stuff is worth its weight in gold!:D

Well here is the low down on oil heat in the north... it sucks. 2 weeks ago I got a delivery of about 215 gallons. Price was $4.09 gallon. My heat and hot water relies on the fuel oil. My place is just shy of 2,000sf. Thermostats set on 66 degrees. Average winter temperatures will use up that oil in 5 weeks. Thankfully, temps been above normal this winter. That delivery may last 6 weeks. There are older homes here that were built when electric was cheap and they have electric heat.. They are getting murdered on the cost of electic. I've heard about 400 a month!!! Our electric utility makes electric with oil fueled generation! My electric bill is about $150 month. Thats for lights, cooking and running the circulators that move the heated water through the radiators. Property taxes are 9,000 a year. Donations can be sent to...

Heating and cooling just over 2000 ft, bills lower than what I am hearing. Best months about 150 or 160 and worst months mid 200s, now and again higher. But then, am milder in summer than deep south and not as cold as up north in winter. Have a long part of year is more spring and fall weather. :)

I can belive it. Been throught the Vagas (McCarren) Airport a few times and it's always the same. The guards are walking up and down the lines yelling about things to do then when you get to the metal detector, they still manage to find something else to check.
