Dropped my shovel twice since the build. The last time I was riding up my ramp to put it away and the right foot peg clipped the doorway as I was riding through. Down it went and it started to spin because the open primary was digging into my plywood floor. Holy s**t, batman! I managed to find the key and shut it off. No injuries and no scratches. I picked the bike up really easy by the handlebars.

JB. Yoi remind me of the first time I 'went down'. About 13 yrs old, went down on homemade motorbike. The start pulley(old rope start) left a big C inside my right knee. couldn't let Pop find out. Still have that C there. Also saw a funny cool biker patch,,"If you don't limp,You aint S..T"

I've been riding for nearly 50 years, and have not dropped any of my lighter bikes. But just last year I was exploring a beautiful country road that came to an abrupt dead-end at a closed gate. There was no turn-around room at all, and I just fell over like that scene in Laugh In with the guy riding a tricycle. Fortunately there was no one around to laugh.

In 1974 I purchased my first Big Bike ( 850T Moto Guzzi ) The first night I rode it I pulled up to a red light and noticed a Ft.Worth police cruiser in the right lane. I pulled up next to him in the left lane, stopped, and put my left foot down in a puddle of oil. After about four quick kicks, down I went. The police officer had to get out of his cruiser to pick the bike up and get it off my leg.
We both laughed till it hurt. He was heading for his dinner break so I went along with him and bought his dinner. What a memory !

Great story, Studds. There's a case of a cop being there when you need him.

Wow, I needed to see this...:) I have an 09 Dyna Fat Bob, and Saturday I tipped it. I was pulling up to a tattoo shop, and they have an inclined parking lot, and it also was a little sandy...I pulled up, pulled in clutch, pulled in break, then when i got up there, I shut it down. Well, when I turned my bars n was going for kickstand, it just tipped. Thankfully it didnt fall hard, as i was holding onto it, but the damn thing is so top heavy i cant lift it once its down so far. So, right on main street, on a busy Saturday afternoon, on the nicest day of tge year so far when everyone was riding, i dropped it.
My question is, what did i do wrong? What can i do to prevent this? Any advice is appreciated...thanks guys..

Side stand first, then if ya gotta turn bars. Leave bars straight,it won't lean as far. JMO

Already stopped: both feet on pavement--kill motor--hold handlebars straight--lower kickstand and look at it (lock) while still sitting.

If slowing to a stop: never turn handlebars at last second--use only rear brake--repeat above steps.

The MSF (motorcycle safety foundation) has some good courses. Beginners through advanced.

Kickstand first - always - then turn wheel if you want or leave straight.

Order a copy of this DVD, it will help you significantly
with slow speed maneuvering of a bike

Jerry Paladino is the instructor owner I've seen the shows
and he has classes all over the USA.

You can tell who those are who do not ride a motorcycle. The other day a lady had made the comment to me that she couldn't believe that I can handle that "big bike." I just smiled and said, "it is easy to handle." I took the MSF and it was really helpful, but I just think that my Road Glide made me a better rider. Wherever the rider looks, the bike follows. :D Of course maneuvering with ape hangers is a tad bit tricky.:D
