one probably designated for the front and one for the rear cylinder, the popping could be something besides a carb issue,

I did find out that the rear carb is jetted differently than the front one and my suspicions were confirmed that the popping that I am getting is most likely from a jetting issue from the rear carb. Most likely the pilot jet.

Just a little background. When I am riding the bike, it pops really bad all the way up until 60 mph or above. Also when riding, I can feel the bike hesitate or jerk, like it is missing. The left pipe is blued really bad coming from the head to about half way the length of the pipe. Before I did into the carbs, I am going to change the air cleaner(S) to see if there is any change. If there isn't, then I will go to the other usual suspects to see if there is a problem that exists there.

    Any suggestions??

I would suspect that any change to the air cleaner could potentially make it worse. The blued pipe is the tell tale sign of an overly lean condition, or worse, an intake leak. Eliminate any possible leak before attacking the carb.

And the carbs are almost identical, I believe the only difference is the throttle linkage.

Thanks Ken, Hot Rider and I are going to go and get the bike later this morning, then when I get it home I am going to use that propane trick and see if it reveals anything. :banghead:

Well I put some propane up to the intakes on Hot Riders bike. From this point I think that I am going to tear the air cleaners off and see what kind of condition they are in. (They need to be looked at anyways).

I guess I am failing to see how a wire could make it pop?? Faulty wire coming from coil or something in there???????

I would sell the honda and give her your sporty and then buy yourself a big bike.

Can you try adding more fuel to the rear carb's air fuel mixture?
If it's running to lean, that would cause popping on deceleration.

Now, let's not go there! This is his intention all along, I wanted the smaller bike to get use to it because I've tried to ride his sporty and I'm just not comfortable at this point, maybe I'll get on again this summer and try again. I eventually want to get a Harley and customize it but he is having a hard time choking this subject down. Guess, he can't take the heat of a woman wanted to customize her bike to her style. :banghead:

    Whoops, my fault.
I didn't mean to stir the sh1t pot.
I will keep my opinion to myself.
I'm sure you'd look alot better on a Harley tho!, teehee, hee.

    You go girl!
Just so you know, in my opinion, sportster are inheriently unstable because they are short and tall. They give that, I want to fall over feeling. Especially when going slow and turning. Is that what you were experiencing?
I don't know how big and and/or strong you are but a "big bike", like a H-D dyna, might be better for you.
My friend, a woman, has a full size 2006 Dyna low rider. She has no problem with it at all.
She's not big, but she is very fit. Attached it a pic of my lady friends bike. It's for sale by the way, she wants 20K for it.
As long as you are strong enough to push and pull the bike a little ways you should be able to ride it just fine. Lots of woman in Florida ride full size H-D's.

One reason you don't feel comfortable on it might be that it is not your bike. If it was yours you may feel differently about it. Just a thought.
