but answering your question properly to tell you that I went from a hot rod with a Thunderheader that I loved but wound up short shifting it to leave the house in the morning and later on short shifting it as the police clamped down on the noise to riding a bike with stock mufflers and riding it the way it should be ridden. I'm looking at putting on the gutted headpipe and will likely go with the supertrapps with the discs so I can tune the pipe to the bike.

    Sleepy. Exactly.
Everyone needs a loud pipe now and then but I'm past that. Smooth power don't wake neighbors and long cruises I can tolerate and crank tunes

Well let me give you boys a news flash.the best tunner in the united states of america runs a bone stock decated header pipe modified by fullsac with a set of curry crusher mufflers on his 2012 street glide . With a 103. 2 into1 into 2 pipes kick ass.they just work nobody has more money than the motor company for r-d the pipe flows well and has a nice torque band and flows up top it will support a hundred and 110 hp with no problem.other pipes he likes t header mikes vh pipes super trap he loves because he says if the pipe dont work i can fix it with the mufflers. Vh true duals .any factory head pipe that is gutted correctly. And 02 are at factory placement. Just saying!

But when you put them on a h or x pipe it tones them a ton .just like on a car with flow masters they are raspy till you put a cross over pipe in then they sound awesome till you stand on it then they bark

BaggerPaul has heard my bike in person along with a couple other members and I think he understands what it is that I am in love with when it comes to the exhaust system on my bike. I will continue to look. I was offered a set of RH headers with 3.5 mufflers from a member of this forum and HTT.

I suppose I should have added that I am looking for the right set for my 117 which I will start building again once my Sportster is taken care of.

Here is my suggestion stay with a muffler that the internal core is 2 to 2.250 baffle size i dont care how big the external size is .that muffler will support 150 hp no problem .keep the primary tubes no bigger than 17/8 that system will be more than enough for a 117.my 1.300 hp big block runs a 3 inch exhaust through 3 inch flow master mufflers .clicks 0ff a 9.42 at 147.mph

Johnny those disc serve a purpose dude.
And to you they may look ugly. But to me they don't.
You can move the rpm range some with them.
And you can put more disc on and let more pressure out, But when you let more pressure out, the mufflers get louder. And it changes where the power is.

Here is what a I used to say. But I am retired and not doing a lot but lolly gagging lately

And I been doing it so long I'm forgetting stuff.

The harley mechanic build a 120 R and they tried and tried to get the dude to put a good exhaust system on it. But he had a exhaust he liked.
And the dyno wouldn't pull the power they was looking for.
    Forgot which pipes he wanted.

    But listen to this.

I think that I am going to stay away from this Basanni Power Curve exhaust system. I just can't get past how ugly it is.

Geeze... There are so many flavors of exhausts out now...
JB what head pipes you have on it now?? Stock 1 3/4" head pipes with crossover and a good muffler/baffle flow pretty good....The math can get pretty deep trying to find the ultimate exhaust(Like in your HTT thread)but figure in the cost per extra HP/TQ ...For a street bike,is it worth the expense??
I don't think you'd get a whole lot better flow from any store bought dual exhaust than you would with stock ....
I think the '09 or so head pipe that goes under the bike is a better pipe than my '03 head pipe for flow, mostly because the cross over pipe is in a better place....

Been a lil quiet here lately...;)
    Happy New Year:D

Right now I am using Vance and Hines Dresser Dual. They are a 1.750 head pipe and are not stepped. No crossover. Looking for the change mainly for when my 117 is built.
