My friend just bought the Road King I demo'd this weekend. He was concerned about riding a road sofa too, but the Road King Classic somehow manages to look clean and lean.

I like the hard bag look on the Road KIng. Makes it look more like a touring bike. JMO

True, but it's an acquired taste, meaning you've got to acquire the mileage ;-)

    So good to hear!

Insurance is tough. I think it depends on the adjuster. I'm not sure if mine would have been covered for labor. I do know that they did not cover engine upgrades, which is where a lot of my money went. My insurance company wanted to total the bike, but the other one paid to fix it thankfully. I think that was the difference between an adjuster on the phone looking at Blue Book and one coming out to look at the bike and seeing that it wasn't close to stock. I got new insurance and had a really long talk with my agent as to how it would be covered if that happened again. In fact, I wrote an article on it. Even within Colorado, I hear so many different things. I've been told by numerous people that you'll never get medical for yourself on a motorcycle policy. However, I know people who say they have it. I even had a progressive agent in the class who said they sell it. I looked at their site, and by the time I added medical, my insurance went from $250 a year to over $700.

Keep riding demos! Go to other dealers and see what they have to ride. Demo days should be coming at the end of August. Go to the Harley website and see if they have anything on it. I'm surprised you didn't like the Heritage; a lot of people love that bike. I'm not crazy about the details on it, and I've never ridden one. I love the looks of a Street Glide for a bagger, but when I rode one I wasn't crazy about it. I've demo'd a ton of bikes and haven't found anything I like better than Hot01.

Softails are one of my favorites for looks it's just got "it" when it comes to
replicating old school HD. Probably why I still have my 10 year old Heritage.

Rode it about 40 miles last night, I don't get it out much but it was time to roll
it out. Cranked it over and it fired right up, even off the battery tender for several weeks.

The ride is different, you sit down in the Heritage and you sit on a touring bike is the best way I can describe it.

Rode around town then out on 46 East through the FL wet lands, two laner, just had it in 6th at about 65 MPH, loafing along at mid 2000's RPM. Came up on a slower truck, just rolled it on and next thing I took a quick look and it's up to 100 in a snap and I'm around the truck in no time, had to let off, dark, two lane, critters... Still, that power, no wonder I dont sell the bike..

On the RG it's downshift, crack the throttle and eventually get around the guy...LOL

A little 106 kit in the garage will fix some of that...

If you like a smooth ride, a little vibration to remind you why you are on an HD and the cool factor, only a Softail will do.. LOL (yeah I know I'll take crap for that LOL)

Not from me you won't cause that's the very reason I keep the 01 Heritage Springer. Love that old look, the low seat and and with the 95 kit in it that engine puts out the TQ and HP better than my 96. My Ultra is great for long distant travel but that Springer just keeps a smile on my face.

I love that old school look too. That is why I like that Cross Bones so much and the Deluxe. There just is no substitute for old school charm.

The Softail seemed to sway back and forth.

I think that you are right about that it just depends on the adjuster. Like I said, when my buddy had to make a claim, he had damaged his tank. I did not think that it was all that bad, but when the adjuster looked at it, he quoted a for a new tank. Well, my buddy just went and got it fixed and saved some money.

    Was it new?

Mine is rock solid, with the rigid mounted trans and engine the only sway would be from alignment or bad/old tires....
