So anyway, how does this oil scavenger work? I can't access the page from here.
It is like a vaccum pump that sucks the old oil out?

it attaches to where the oil filter resides. you add oil to the engine, start it and when clean oil dumps into the catch pan you shut off the engine.....

I could do that with a piece of hose and a bucket. Why spend $50?

ya, it can be done that way.....but very messy, there is pressure at the filter. this tool captures the oil and directs it to the pan with out making a big mess,,,,,,,,

your starting to think out of the box!!!! i like that. there is always more than one way to skin a cat!!!! an old filter housing with a bung welded in it may work,,,,,,just block the return.

I used to have a Tee connector inline with the oil line that could be opened up for just this purpose. Just connect a chunk of hose to the tee and fire that mutha up. Close off the tee when you done. Boom, just saved $50~!
Thanks for believing in me Chuck, it means a lot to me. I will burn that DVD for you if its possible.

Yes, in Florida the shovelheads need 70 wt or they can blow up.
It thins out like water when it's hot.

I dunno about the 70 weight, might be the reason for your oil problems
pushing that thick stuff through the engine..

I would use a 60 wt no more.... Probably only use a 20W-50 syn (yeah I know)
shovels don't like syn oils.... LOL

You can make up what you want, it comes with the machined knurled puck that has the rubber gasket in it, mounts up perfect to the oil filter mount, no leaks, and the tool to remove the hard line properly from the oil tank.

A bit pricey but at that time I had some extra cash and nothing
I could put on the bike without replacing something and I wanted to
    see it work.

    It does...

Problem with the filter is you are still running new oil through a dirty
filter, or, if you put on a new filter, you are running dirty oil through a new
filter, which kind of defeats the purpose...
