Took they '83 out for a short ride today. As long as I know it's reliable I'll ride it far. For now I won't ride it unless my wife is home in case.

I only rode about 30 miles. Talk about bare bones no frills. No problems other then wondering if it will idle in traffic. I kept blipping throttle when I felt the idle sounded to low.

Riding this bike really gives me a great appreciation for today's modern technology bikes. Harley had come a long way baby.

You gotta dial that CV carb idle speed in.

Great carb. Tattoo has one on his 103 shovel. But they can finicky at times.

They're a very good carb and not a lot to them,I've only played with 1 once...Maybe I got lucky:)...It had an adjustable main jet air bleed, but I didn't touch it...I'd have to think your Super E is pre '04 ....MJ air bleed is only change in pre-'04 and post-'04 as far as I know....
Here's a guide to help dial it in....

I took the advice of several guys here on BT and put a CV carb on my shovel to replace the old butterfly style. Bought one used from HarleysLR and installed a stage 1 kit from Ken and it has performed flawlessly for nearly 5 years now. Total investment under $100.

The E is simple to setup, most times they are jetted way to rich, and it's a pretty big carb so you can get some issues, the adjustable air bleed can be put into your
carb if you don't have one, basically you have to drill and tap a hole then you
can put Mikuni jets in and change when it transitions from pilot to main jet.

There is an idle stop screw, you should be able to set it once the bikes warmed up and it should hold idle there after you close the choke. It shouldn't be going up or down lower. If it is warm the bike up and then look for a leaking manifold seal that opens up as the engine warms up...
