Hey Johnny. First and least important, l hope you read my post as it was written in that I was talking about the grammar on some of the chopper sites. Also, I was not implying anything about the intelligence or skills of Bike-Talk members, but more my perceived predisposition toward the 'leave it stock' attitude.
My question is around your comment about going with a belt or open primary. I'm a fan of a dry primary myself and was wondering if you had done any research on that. I know it's been done on unit construction motors, but I don't know what the best way is to do it. I assume they still share juice with the trans, but maybe I'm wrong about that. If so, is there an aftermarket door or will you modify the stock part? The belt drive and a six speed are at the top of my cool mods list for my Sportster. Though the gear set would be way hard to justify price wise as I don't ride it far or often enough. k

KDiddy, Yeah I knew what it was that you meant, but there are some members here that may not have. Just remember that these guys like to play around and they are just having fun. One of the prerequisites for membership is knowing how to take and dish out shiit. You mentioned the "leave it stock" attitude, I completely understand what they are saying by this and I agree with most of it, but I will end up doing what it is that I want anyway. Just because they give opinions or advice does not mean that I have to take it, however, I appreciate them for taking the time to not only hack on me, but also to offer their valuable experience and opinions. I am pretty confident that they really do not care what I do to MY bike, it's all in good fun.

I have looked at a couple of chopper sites and for some reason they didn't impress me all that much. Not sure why. As far as the open primary goes I have looked into the same one that Lucifer posted a link to (Evolution Industries) but as far as pricing goes only. I have not looked into the specifics of the parts yet as I am a little ways off from starting this project. I need to find another bike before I will do this which may be a while. BTW, open primaries are a staple of custom bikes if that is what you meant by "you've seen it done on unit construction motors."

No problems with modifications, heck cut it down, hack it up, rattle can the tank and put a blower on your bike....

Just be prepared for all the expenses that go with a bike that is cobbled together, or
with the added power that breaks things that are stock because they can't handle the power, or your new found application of the power.

We've done it, it's fun, but it's evil side is that it tends to make
bikes less reliable and that translates to less riding time.

When it gets to the point that your friends look at you
when they want to go on a ride like "wellllll maybe you should go alone"
because they are tired of sitting around with you waiting on a trailer
for a broken bike, you'll understand.

Everyones got to go through that learning curve....

I'm not going to go that extreme though. As far as engine mods goes I am done with them. Anything I do to my bike from now on is either going to be the conversion and change it's appearance, and the water injection which is not as crude as nitro. :D
