Went by and picked up the oil for the engine, tranny and primary. Got Amsoil for everything. Got the Severe Gear Synthetic Pressure for the tranny 75W-140. Evidently the folks that used the 75-90 didn't like it but they like the 75-140 much better. Now if this snow and cold weather will just let up long enough to get the job done.:gah:

As soon as I think I've got this worked out, I realize I don't. After following advice her, calling Amsoil and then going to a reputable INDY shop, I bought a quart of Amsoil 20W50 motorcycle oil. The INDY shop owner said he uses the 20W50 in the engine AND the tranny. Amsoil recommended 75/110 SVT for the gear oil (which I haven't purchased yet)

OK, so which is it for my 07 Dyna's tranny, 20W50 MC or SVT 75W/140 as dmassey suggests?

Thanks guys, that helps a little, but so far, there has been many conflicting opinions, which gets a bit confusing.
Love that icon Chuck. How's he do that ;-)

:wtf: Your already running a excellent gear oil and your not going to get better results. Harley tranny's clunk ya need to get used to it just like they can be sometimes hard to find neutral. My 01 Springer has 40,000 on her now and the tranny shifts better now after adding the Redline shock proof.

Just thought I'd try Amsoil since it was a little more readily available here. Chuck, there's a guitar amplifier called SVT, and I guess it got locked in my brain after 40 years as a musician !

75/140 gear oil "might" be a bit heavy for winter time use in the gearbox of a 6-speed Harley. Perhaps 75/90 gear oil "might" be more appropriate for use in the cold environment in which you are now riding. I usually start to insert the 75/140 starting in June when the ambient temps start to stay above 80 degrees and can go upward to 100. 75/140 weight will not likely harm your gearbox but I think it will be a little stiff when shifting in colder climates. Remember, a gear box does not get all that hot compared to a crankcase and gear lubes are not measured in the same manner as engine oils.

that's what they are, opinions and everyone has had good luck with what they use. Now you just have to pick one and stay with it. See how it works for you then you will have an opinion too.
