No others that we buy oil from has done it that I'm aware of. So *^%$ Chavez and his oil!!!!!!! Ya know the oath if you served....its all about defending America from its foes both forigen and domestic way I see it ! That oath was for life you know? Not just while we served !

Except that the largest importer of oil to the US is just a little north of you, not the Arabs.

I wish we never had to buy another gallon of oil from anyone. Alternatives will come, just not in time for us riders to have the pleasure of seeing all those gaining power from their oil products losing it.

I'm around 4k miles with my Red Line gear oil and tranny oil now. Is it better to leave it and change once the winter is over or better changed now?

I change it when it needs it regardless of the time of year, and if it is sittin wouldn't it be better sittin with fresh oil instead of old dirty oil.

I agree, changing oil's no big thing, unless you live in a NYC apartment and have no access to a garage/draining, etc! Not trying to make too big a deal of this, just curious if there was any preference to changing oil before storing or after winter storage. If time permits ( busy with holiday stuff) I'll get it changed soon.

If you are going to store it, change the oil, fill it with fuel put in some sta-bil, stuff some steel wool in the ends of the mufflers and don't start it all winter unless you are going to ride it. ALso put a good battery tender on to manage the battery charge.

It's not necessary to change the oil but at 4K might as well so in the spring you are ready to RNR>..

Well I guess we all have opinions they are like !@#holes!!!!...lol...
To change oil or before or after storage?
It depends on where its stored a temps. You need to change oil if your bike is a warm garage where the temps do not slew at a high rate producing condensation in the oil from motor and be ready come sping time.

If the temps in your storgae area are subjected to the same temps as outside you need to Change after the storage no matter if its clean or not due to the high moisture content of the condensation in the oil from the varied temps. Your oil filter will not filter water much at all.

About steel wool in the pipes....if you have a rodent sealed garage or storgae area you will not need it. That would require no openings anywhere in the structure over 1/4 inch. If in doubt place steel wool in them.If you have rodents in the structure you would be better to spend a few bucks and get them out....they will damge all wires where they set up house!!!

I know what you mean HD. Those critters seem to like wire for some reason! Maybe it's superstitious, but I like the idea of changing oil after the bike's been sitting still for a long time.. I haven't made up my mind yet regarding storage. I pay $230 a month for a garage near where I live. I can store it at a friend's for $200 all winter. Unfortunately, that means I risk losing my space if I leave now. That's NYC for ya!
