Charlie. Do you really want to spend time doing your own tune? If it isn't close are you willing to give doc in Clermont $350 (best tuner w tts in fl)
    To get it spot on.

If so the tts is great easy to tune need laptop cables etc

But for a mild bike with std upgrades like filter and headers or cam the get pc5 loaded with a Dyno tuned map and using a simple screwdriver ti take off seat is about as high tech as that solution gets

Sat in on a seminar last Saturday and yes some of the programs allow you to run without them, however it was said that it was better to have them incorporated into the system.

similar to the sert just a hole lot easier to use . lots of canned maps that you down load , as a base then ride see were your ve tables are at then if that table is not within spec you make the adjustment needed . kinda like the sert smart tune feature. look at the kurayakan site under perfect storm im not saying to buy that package at all but there is info is pretty good . and jp cycles also sells the unit . they are the original company that made the sert for hd . very very good tunner for closed loop bikes hrk has one ass well i had the sert on my deuce for a while but my bike was open loop . and my build was not strait forward hd parts got it to work any way . but later on i went to closed loop . much better !!!

When tuning, don't care what or who says what but nothing beats a proper tune on a dyno with a good tuner with a SE Supertune, TTS or what ever. Some are better than others and some are very basic. You might get it close doing it by trial and error or you may not get close at all. Do it right if your going to put a tuner on it. Just be sure you have a good dyno man. Wished you were out closer here as we have one of the best in the states here at Latus motors. Harley Davidson works with him all the time. None better than Mike Stegman.

08 SG 96 incher - I did the stage 1 download, i have some cheap freeB mufflers and a SE air filter system. Runs good and get good gas mileage, when I hit it hard it drops to 45-46 and normal riding it gets 49-52 mpg. I am happy with the download, at least for now. It'll hit the red line in every gear up thru 4th, then I slow down cause it's a haulen butter by then. :)

Had a Power comander V on my last bike.
Got a Thundermax on this bike.
If you got a good tuner I'd git a Race tuner and have it dynoed if yer doing more than air cleaner and pipes like a cam
But for a air cleaner and pipes I'd do a download.

Yep, CB is right if just doing the basics a download from Harley will work great. Olbill did that to his bike with a download and its running great.

The only advantage you will get is a finer tune. The download is going to be pretty close but not exact like a tuner and dyno will do but a dyno and a tuner costs a lot of bucks. I would stick with the download.

a standard download will be close but fuelmoto creates
their own maps using hd bikes and real dyno tunes.

TTS does the same but not as many maps,

With the TTS you get a close map and run the
bike in tuning mode with a laptop while you ride
its easy, good and one of the best, also you can
get it dyno tuned, you would want to use Doc in Clermont
if you choose a custom map.

Thundermax is good but you have to get the auto
tune add on, change to tmax o2 sensors and
the price goes up. The TTS accesses the hd ECM and
the tune is done on the ECM, no add on parts no ecm swap
no new o2 sensors I prefer it.

HD downloads are fine but they are still going to
be a patch to the ecm better maybe best no way.

Powercommander from fuelmoto is the best novice
way to go JMO if you want plug n play and a very very good
    dyno tune for your bike.

I took the dyno map from Fullsac for a 110
he did with filter and his baffles and header

Put it on my 110 with same parts
ran a tts VE run, it showed about 10 to 20
cells out of a hundred plus that needed
a minimum of tweaking not even 5% which
TTS tells you to leave alone as you will get
some variable amounts with different fuels, riding
etc, the ECM will take care of that.

Point being a good map from TTS source
or FuelMoto is light years ahead of the old
days when you just grabbed one of a few maps
for the old PC2 or PC3 and uploaded.

These are spot on and simple to install.

If you look at Cams, I would call Bob but I got a lot of friends that has gone with his 555 cam and are more than happy. Fuelmoto sells it too.
