If you are using it to git somewhere and it rains, just pop it off and look at the sign s to git where you need to go
Or buy a waterproof Zumo and keep riding

XXL 540TM. 5 inch. Suction mount it comes with works great.Lifetime traffic and maps, speaks street names and counts down to turns aloud.. Would get one with Blootoot also if'n I was to get another one. Surf the net for prices like HRK says.

Also, it has gotten wet with no troubles. And you know what for about a 'c'note + - who cares if it should take a sheet in the rain, just buy a new one. Or spend about 6xs as much for a Gizmo or Gumbo or whatever.

I agree 6 or 700 bucks is very steep. All the years of riding I found more adventure just riding where I am lead. A GPS helps when on a mission or a quest but for more enjoyment for me there is nothing like letting the ride just happen. The rough planing with a map and then just hitting the road without a watch or a schedule is the way I roll best. So having a less expensive GPS available in a saddlebag would be a tool for me like an adjustable wrench. JMO

I put a city in that I'm headed to, and its gutting close to time to go to Arkansas
I like being able to look at the scenery and just drive
The Garmin let's me relax and do thar
I don't put routes in it
I take my phone and look at the roads and all and the small towns where I'm headed threw

If I change where I'm headed it reroutes me
The GPS on't control where I'm going
    It simply aids me
It's just another tool in my tool box that I can use as I wish

I don't live in a big fancy house
    Don't drive a new truck
My home &vehicles are paid for
All needs work on them except my wife's truck
So I'm probably in a different boat

    When I buy something
I ain't trying to buy it to just git by
I want super good tires on my bike
    Want good gas
    Great seat for my comfort
I won't all good stuff so I don't wind up spending more money on the same thing again
I don't want to leave home on a trip and worry about a malfunction or breakdown
That's why I wait and git top line stuff
What you like, or what you are willing to pay for is for you
Do it yer way and the way you can afford
My grandmother told me as a young boy
It only takes a little but more to go 1st Class

I hear ya and respect your reasoning.
But, I'd head north and turn right at Oklahoma to git to Arkansas.

CB nobodys crapping on your choice the zumo is the right one, but
when you're doing a big build, buying $500 LED headlights and have to
pick between one and the other, well you can get everything you need
witha Garmin thats not a zumo...

Zumo= Top o Da Line, Agreed. Cost, though keeps it out of MY price range. If it was the only one you could buy I'd have to go back to maps stuffed in my boot. You can get a lot of use out of a much less expensive one is all I/m saying.

Yeah but they are not always as feature heavy,
plus they run on battery so you run them down
using them as GPS without a plug in.

As far as a non rain GPS, ya know they still work in yer
pocket, and if it's got blooteef it will still give ya directions.

Or you could follow these little things called signs...

Find a place to stop, grab a coffee or cola and chill while the
    rain passes...

I have never tried this but can you just put a city in the gps for location or do you have to add a specific address?

Sure you can put a city and state in. I would take a good atlas along that has all the states, that's why I like the Harley road map book. I carry one in the bike with me all the time. Personally I don't much care for the GPS when traveling cross the country. They are good in the city as long as you have the address where you are headed to.

Yes but generally it will route you to the center of that town/city
so you may end up off route if you are going to a city that you really don't
want or need to get downtown.
