Long distance road tripping isn't for the feint of heart. Your moxy and your metal is tested hard regular. The best peace you get each day is when you pull into the hotel for the night and why that function is met with much joy and appreciation, lol.

Glad your home safe, always feels great pulling in the driveway.

My trip is only about 600 miles one way and we won't hit any freeways. Going down Hwy 26 then to Hwy 97 through central Oregon. Guy I'm riding with says he can't ride that far in one day so we're spending the first night in Klamath Falls, about 400 miles. On the way back told him I'm leaving at 6AM and riding straight through to home. Course the temps will be in the low 40's at that time in the morning according to the weather channel. Most of the time when I've left Reno that early it's been in the 20's.

If I am going on a multi day ride I will rarely go more than 400 miles each day...I'm 59 and I found out that after a few days of that sort of riding I have to take a day off and rest up...But that is just me...

We did 550 miles that Sunday. Left at 7:30am,got there at 4:30pm. We did that because i foolishly factored in only 2 days and because of the rain only did 400 miles on Saturday. On the way home we took 3 days. First day heading back i think we did maybe 313 miles, the next day we pushed a little harder thinkning the more we do today the less we do tomorrow and we did 383 miles that second day. 3rd day only 243 miles to home.

I'm 59 too. I don't think 5-600 mile multiple days is unreasonable at our age but i think you need to be in shape for it. Round is a shape but not the kinda shape for big mile multiple touring days.

I think 400 miles is a nice number for consecutive day touring.

I really enjoy being on the road. Its one of the best feelings. Its not easy, you gotta be on your toes, nerves of steele and focused.

After each trip i always evaluate what i could have done better. Anything i can add to make the next trip better.

Shoot I'm 65 going on 66 and I could still do the 600 miles to Reno in one trip. Sure it's easier when your younger but not impossible.
At 58 I had open heart surgery due to a heart valve that was damaged by agent orange in Vietnam. They also replaced a bunch of veins for good measure while they were in there. We rode to Washington DC two years later and did over 8,000 miles on that trip. Don't know if I want to do that again as it was 100F the whole time and the humidity back east was plain horrible. Glad we don't have humidity like that here.

And why when one is planning a multi day/week trip that should also factor in climate, time of the year etc.. June thru end of August is the worst time for all and every reason. And it gets tricky depending where you're going, what part of the country.

Did 140 miles today with the club here on the island. Went out to the Hamptons. Some good roads and some filled with NYC yuppies partying and driving around trying to impress one another. I'm beat from the ride! If I were away from the crowds I could do 500 miles a day.

Why didn't you and the club put the 2% smack down on the yuppies?

I rode 38 miles round trip today and I'm plain beat.

Plus 2 grandkids soccer games sitting in the hot sun. Got sunburned. Left at 8AM this morning went to a Road Captains meeting first then the soccer games. Got home at 4:30. Long day and bushed.
Plus the ex-wife showed up at the soccer games which made the tension high.

Like a friend of mine always says " Oh well what are yea gonna do "

My current wife told me one Saturday while we were stopped and looking at a brand new 99 Roadking. She says well your child support is over why don't you take it home. Talk about a jaw dropper and yes I took that bike home that day.
