there are a few areas that need some touch up and granted it is NOT perfect but is a start. a buddy looked at it yesterday and told me it looked pretty good. of course i am very judgemental of it and can see every mistake I made. but yes it needs a lot of sanding but that is a job for when i have more time.

I cut one of mine down recently, and before going to work with the sanding block, I used a belt sander to take out any waves. Now that I am finished, you cannot tell that it wasn't from the factory.:D

Thanks!! I do not have a belt sander but I do have a palm sander that might be faster than my hand. There are just one or two small waves that are not too bad. In fact I took another look at it in the sun yesterday and it was not too bad.

I will try to take a pic of it the next day or so and post it. I have not been able to spend much time online lately. On the other hand I was able to take my oldest daughter (12) out for a 20 mile ride around the block on Monday. Guess I will have to make it up to the little one (7) today. :)

oh the height is MUCH better and could possibly loose another inch. :) I have been taking the bike to work every day and back. It is SO much BETTER with the windshield NOT being in my direct line of site. I also do not move around as much looking over then under then over again. Much more relaxing ride.

I have a 2002 Heritage with a windshield needing replacement. During the 105th ran into a fellow from the UK...he cut his windshields (wife included her) down with a scroller saw and it looked pretty good. I tried it at home, removed about 2" and had pretty decent results. Being 5'9" I think I'll bring it down another 2". I am using a sanding block to smooth out the edges but it does not work all that well. I think I"ll order a new shield next year and get the shortest one I can find. This has been quite an interesting and timely forum article. Thanks to all of you.

Check out Memphis shades replacement windshields. I am not sure if 17" is the smallest or not but their prices are not too bad. I am looking at getting one of their shades in the spring myself.
