I love Texans for their straight-forward honesty, but you bought a 22 year old bike (untold miles and how many owners) and then blame the mfr. for it being screwed up??? Hmmm.....would it make you feel better if maybe we could track down the miserable ba$%^&@s who built it and just shoot them? Where's HotRoadKing? We need you for a small job!

Cardboard, the current 3 year contract for Syn 3 is Ashland Petroleum down your way, otherwise known as Valvoline.

Well that's telling it like it is, while I might agree with you I hope you don't chase him away as everyone is entitled to their opinion.

As for Harley oil I use Redline and don't like their SYN3 and not going to get into a oil war here.:D. But I do love my Harley wouldn't ride anything else.:D

    Thanks !

If folks don't like Valvoline, I don't care. Its proved its self to me more than one time.
During my younger days I used to Drag race cars. Used nothin but Valvoline Racing Oil.
I've ran Valvoline Vtwin 20-50 oil in my bike that Walley World had.

I apologize for being such a pain, FLHT. Really meant no disrespect to any folks out there, and I promise to keep my mouth shut for awhile.

I don't keep a case of oil in the house. And I ain't ordering it and waiting on it to be delivered.
I go and get some good oil when I need it.
Its usually Mobile 1 or Valvalone Vtwin 20-50 Oil from Walmart.
Get a K&N filter from my buddy down the street who orders like 10 at a time and gets them for like 12.50 each.
Much cheaper than driving 50 miles to a dealership

If folks don't like the answer they shouldn't ask the question.

Did they teach you guys to read at the MMI. I said that my first Harley was 1976 Sportster that I bought in 1998 and I have been riding Harleys ever since. The old Sporty was a fine bike; a bit rough around the edges compared to today's offerings but I cast no dispersions on the MoCo. There have been a couple of others between then and now. I now own two Harleys, a 2005 FXSTD and a 2002 FLHT; both with built motors. I just don't drink the MoCo cool aid. If I had time I would list all the stupid stuff the MoCo engineers have come up with over the years. Here is just one of the latest for you. WTF were they thinking when the designed a self adjusting primary chain tensioner that is not accessible without removing the outer primary but will adjust itself so tight that guys are being plagued with inner primary and transmission bearing issues.

I stand corrected, again, on the Syn 3 manufacturer; last I heard is was Sunoco. I don't care who makes it, I wouldn't run it in the engine, primary and transmission, but that's just me.

FLHT, I am not going anywhere; I enjoy the exchange but do wish Alex would learn to read.

Just to be clear; I was never angry and hope my responses were not taken as such. I respect everyone's opinion and just expect the same in return. We are all connected by the road and the machine; it's all good.

Heck I know guys who use regular car oil and never had a problem, yet. Just keep it changed regularly no matter what brand you use. I do like the full synthetic motorcycle oils better, seems to run quieter.

Way back when I had a 750 Honda, 'just used Quaker State 10-40 Deluxe. 'Wasn't even aware of M/C oil. I think H-D was the only M/C oil, but it was straight 50 wt.I think.
