On hard acceleration or just normal?? Around what revs you hearing this??It's a little strange to have pinging in low gears and not in the high gears...

On both. I just got back from a ride and it is pinging still. It is now pinging at cruising. It is possible I just didn't hear it because of wind. Less windy today than what it has been.

I am thinking about retarding the initial and see what that does.

Might just need to run a couple more tanks of that Seafoam MMO mix Paul said...When you sprayed the water in the intake ,did you get a bunch of junk(carbon) come out the tail pipe??

No, there wasn't anything coming out of the tail pipe. It stumbled like it should but nothing came out. Before I mess with the timing I am going to take the carb off and open it up and clean it well. Who knows, maybe something is blocking a passage all of a sudden. If that doesn't do the trick, then I am looking to the ignition system.

I was really impressed overall, the carb was really clean. The pilot jet from what I could see looked OK as it I was losing light. I am going to take the pilot out again today to get a better look. Filtering fuel more than once works. ;)

Another forum suggested something that was never mentioned. The VOES!

Well, BP mentioned the MAP sensor a few posts back, which eliminated the VOES on pre 2004 Sportsters, if I recall. So he likely should get a half point.

I don't know why you keep playing with girls bikes when you have a real HD in the garage

A guy riding a Sportster proves he's not compensating for something. Already had enough inches between the legs, didn't need to buy more. ;)

Was on a ride today and one of the guys had a stock 1200 Sporster and when we opened up that thing to my surprise moved along quit well. To small for me but it moved pretty quick.

One thing a Sportster does good is get away from a light quicker than most. I love hearing from some riders how Sportsters suck and aren't real Harleys, then I leave em at the red lights. That being said, Sportsters aren't the best when it comes to highway comfort or storage. All bikes have a few plus and minus things, and mine meets my current needs just fine.
