Wow. That sucks! I certainly understand the need to close the doors but I will also miss the board and the ability to buy from people who are genuinely interested in helping rather than just selling parts. If I had the ability to host the forum I would do it. However, I do not have the resources. I wish I did.

I hope your health improves and you are able to keep riding.

    Be well.

2 others that I know of....

The only other 2 that I know of are the vtwin.com and harleyareana.net both are ok.....neither are anywhere near as good as this. must give credit tho, there was one or 2 tidbits of info gleaned from each, but my largest wealth of knowlege has been from here. Tis truely a sad day for "wish I was a mech" like me!!! LOTS of good info and knowlegeable folks here....good for a "gentelmanly argument" on occation with no feelings hurt (that I know of), but good points on all sides. I wish I had the resources to take over the board, but with the military sending me places, I am afraid that I would NEVER have the time to dedicate myself to it like CD has done. Hats off and glass raised to CD and his dedication! May health improve with every passing day.

I to remember those early days on Motorcycle online and then Crossroads. Meant some great people over the years on these boards and it has continued even better on Bike Talk. Been a lot of years with wars on motorcycle online to very constructive motorcycle conversation here. I hope to stay in contact with many on this board and those I have meant through these boards.
Really sorry CD to hear your health is not doing well. I know as we get older things happen and our bodies wear down. Sure hope to see you and your wife again some time. Maybe some of the bike talk riders can get together and stop in to see you. Sure wish you well and will keep you in my thoughts.

    Sad to see it end.

That goes for me too. And everyone here that I have had the pleasure of reading thier posts and who have responded to my silly questions and needs.

If anyone cares.... I am now "YOMOMMA" on the V-Twinforum. I didn't pay my $15.00 anual fee yet but I'll get around to it eventually.

    Peace to all,

    Tom

What all does a person have to do to keep this site up and running? I don't have a lot of time nor a lot of knowhow but I see where there is some interest in running the site. I can help out a little..maybe some more of us can...I'd really hate to lose this. I'm a member of the V-Twin site and like Ironhorse I find it not quite my cup of tea..it's OK but this is home..been a long time.

    That's really sad news.

All the best parts on my bike came from Direct Parts, and most of the know-how I use to keep it running I got from this forum.

Not only was the service always top-notch, not only were the prices always the best, but CD and the DP staff always went out of their way to help out a customer well beyond the call of duty. And to top it off, providing this forum for free is more than any of us could reasonably have asked for. The world will be a slightly poorer place without Direct Parts.

CD, I hope you feel better. You deserve a long and comfortable retirement after all you've done for your fellow bikers. Thanks for everything.

I heard about this over on the VTF a few days ago...and this is the first time I've been able to get back on this site. I thought biketalk had been shut down already.

I just want to say a big thankyou to those of you who provided me with a lot of insight and information...First and foremost, CD, then HotRoadKing, and my paint guru ChuckTX...Thank you all very much. I wish I'd have gotten a chance to do one of the biketalk rides; but alas there was never enough time or money to travel so far to meet you all down there in the southwest.

I sure hope this technical articles and product reviews sections can be saved...if not here on this site, transferred to the VTF or somewhere else.

If this site goes down, and you're looking for another home, here are some options.

www.v-twinforum.com [already recommended...BIG forum with lots of everything...including some as$holes.:(

www.hdforums.com [Very much like the VTF; but fewer as$holes]

www.harleyarena.net [downsized version of the two above (like 1,000 members VS. 20,000)...My favorite, partly due to the number of active members in the upper midwest I have met]

www.harleyzone.com [Some of you may like it...I don't...but I'm still a member that checks in once in a while]

www.harleyshoptalk.com [tight knit group of regulars, who like to ride and will travel some serious distance to meet other members or do group runs. The only site I know of with cursing allowed...is definately an 'adult' forum. Tech information isn't often discussed because most everyone there has 'been there, done that' and would rather focus on the ride now. Willing to help you if you have a problem or question...just know its not going to be a topic unless you make it one.]

www.eglide.org [small site that just launched this summer and has little activity as yet...geared towards touring riders]

    http://forums.delphiforums.com/n/main.asp?webtag=electraglide1&nav=start&prettyurl=/electraglide1 [Electraglide garage]

http://groups.msn.com/harleytechtalk/techtalk5.msnw [HarleyTechTalk....pretty much all tech all the time. They have plenty of real experts there, and weekend warriors who drag race regularly at the track. HotRoadKing tipped me to this site years ago and is a member there]

I'm a member of all of these...what can I say, I have an insatiable appetite for harley talk that couldn't be satisfied by one site.:D Most of these sites are well known to many Harley forum users, and you will see the same members in many places. Its a big internet with something for everyone.

    good byes

As everyone else I shall sorely miss this place...it is the first and only such site I have ventured to I showed up fairly computer illiterate (not a great deal better now, lol) and found a great place.....wish someone could just take it over and keep it afloat. It feels like when they tore down Pappys bar and grille.....after visiting it for so long it really hurt to see "progress" do it's thing. When is the axe set to fall?

Ya, I was wondering the same thing, really thought it would have fallen by now. I guess CD has just (for now) left his computer on...

    Sorry, been busy

Sorry, I am pretty busy wrapping things up. The forum will stay up for now and I will post a date for closing later.

I really am hoping that one or some of you who have enjoyed this forum will step up to the plate and take it over. It really is not hard and if you divide the costs and work load it would not be a big deal.
