    i recieved this from ken.....
    Hi Chuck,

I can access Bike Talk but for some reason cannot post anything. I can only read and send private messages.

Actually it may sound crazy but I'm not looking for any money and there are no rates to cover. I already own the domain names, purchased the forum software, and have the host in place. I had planned to move my own forum over but the current Bike Talk board already has a bigger following. My forum was one of those freebies that I attached to my Harley-Performance site. I may eventually offer some ad space on the borad but I'm not in it for the money. I already have my main site Harley Performance and the forum just provides an additional place for both my readers and those that already belong to Bike Talk to discuss bikes.

My goal would be to move everything from the current forum over to the newly created forum under the bike-talk.com domain that I already own (not configured yet). That way everyone will still have all the archived info to search back through when looking for answers to tech questions. Starting with an empty forum is harder since newcomers don't stick around if there's nothing to read.

Anyway, thanks for your reply. Let me know if there is anyone who can help with this.
    - Ken

he also said that he does not want any money, and that he purchaced the name a month ago, just registered it the other day. i dont know how this stuff works, so i am taking him at his word. i have visited his current sites and they are very informative.....
this is my thought,,,and i am no computer wizz by any streach of the word....just an ol' greybeard that would liketo keep this board alive...
he has offered to host and maintain for free
    his other sites look good
he will move all info to other board so it is not lost
he is willing to do this now......
i plan to request a "legacy" statement on the new board to honor cd and direct parts.
as i said, i dont know alot about these matters, but a decision ought to be made, as cd is not in a position to keep this site up........
    what say y'all???

At this point the options are getting smaller. It seems kind of weird that he snagged up the bike talk name and then “ oh gee, look, what a coincidence,,,” … as far as him not being able to post, that may be true as there is no one to except new members. I guess we shouldn’t have dragged our feet. If this new site is B.S.,,, then we don’t have to patronize it. Last but not least, if he refuses to make a dedication to the previous host (CD) and all the years that bike talk has been around, it would be his mistake as it would surely bring more folks in and that is what he says he wants, right?

i have emailed ken with a couple of requests....a link from here to the new place, and a "legacy" to cd and direct parts. i will let y'all know how it goes....i think this could be a good thing. if ya dont agree, could ya let me know why not?? i think he will need mods, and there are a few of us that have stated they would do it, my self included......i think that would help things along......

If its OK with CD then it works for me. If we do move it there and it does not work then we can always look someplace else.

I'm with you guys. This was CD's baby and he needs to OK what ever we do with his company's name attached.

here is ken,s respose to my requests......

    Hi chuck,

Yes, been following along with the different posts. I wish I could reply there but thats not to be. I of course would include mention of CD and his legacy, he deserves all the credit for laying the foundation. My intentions as described to some of the others is quite straight forward, to provide a home for the old forum. I don't have any commercial interests, don't own a shop, nor plan on using the forum for any personal gain. I'm a fellow biker who wants to keep a well loved forum online. I would like all of those who have contributed to continue and join in as moderators where needed.

Moving everything over will still take agreement from CD and Dave (or whomever is holding the keys). I set up a super quick forum just to show others that I'm serious and can build a forum. You are welcome to check it out or share it with others.

    Thanks,
    Ken

Site looks pretty good. I did not try to post anything as I'm sure that our user name and password are not set up. I hope that CD is viewing this as I sure would like to see his opinion.

Sorry, been pretty busy wrapping up this whole shebang.

Ken has emailed me and sent PM's....My only thoughts are that it is odd that the name www.biketalk.com was available when I suggested it and now, it is reserved and was only done so on 2006-11-29 at 22:51:34

The last thing I want to see is this forum turned into a commercialized mess.

I would much rather turn it over to the members and let you run it as a group.

I am just finishing a few things and once it is done, I will loose the server. Several of you have spoken about what you would like to do and ultimately it will be your choice.

I am basically asking you to please form a group and continue bike talk as it always has been, a place about people, helping people and learning together.

I gave Ken access to post along with some other new members. I would suggest hearing him out as he may well be on the up and up.

I will also allow my articles to be transferred with the site.

    Dots....

Okay, I am a little tired and just now connected the dots on who Ken is. He has been purchasing from us for years and is good people. So, he has my vote to get the site.

Still, it is your call to make as it is and always will be the members forum.

Thanks CD, appreciate your vote of confidence. To all who got the wrong idea about me and my intentions, I apologize. My offer here has always been just to provide a new non-commercial home for this forum, without having it cost any of the members. I personally believe in this forum and as a fellow biker feel I can help contribute to its future. As mentioned earlier I have set up a temporary forum to show how it can be done on my part, even though it is only for show (no users or content added yet). I won't bore anyone right now with the logistics of moving everything over, I'll figure that out.

What I do need is a decision from the members here. As CD stated this forum has always been the members forum. So I'm leaving it in the hands of all of you. My proposal is straight forward... I have the resources and willingness to administrate this forum on my own hosting account and software, while a team of volunteer veteran members would be given full control to moderate the board as they see fit. If the majority here feels that this is not in their best interest, then I'll pound sand and leave this to someone else.

One more thing before I leave this to everyone to discuss. I firmly believe that no matter where this forum ends up, that the legacy of CD and Direct Parts should live on. Regardless of where this forum lands that should be displayed for all to know where this all started.

    Thanks and enjoy the ride!
    - Ken
