A guy's gotta do what he's gotta do LOL. HRK, it was an unbelieveable 69 degrees this afternoon. This morning it was below freezing. Man! Tomorrow will be even warmer. Think I'll go out in the back yard (tomorrow) with a cold one and catch some rays .

Here's what my new petcock looks like: 20131115_3 (640x480).jpg

And hopefully I'll be riding by the end of next week. Funny thing . . . this thread started out as an "intermittant noise in the front cylinder" which actually turned out to be a broken tab on the gas tank. The faster I went, the faster the tank rattled against the backbone, then sometimes it would stop and then start rattling again. We thought it might be bad tappets. This lead to the discovery that I really did have bad tappets which I replaced with a kit. Went for a ride, and . . . the rattling persisted. That was an Oh, Shit moment. I finally wised up and found the problem. Then I replaced the fuel tank & petcock. Now the intake manifold, spacer & CV adaptor are being ported by BP. When I took the carb apart and cleaned it, I discovered that the 3 air cleaner allen bolts that attached the air cleaner base plate to the carb had crushed the air filter. Replaced them with flat head machine screws so now the new 4" air filter doesn't get crushed which before had allowed a small amount of air to flow unfiltered into the combustion chambers. Man.

$650 later I'm wondering if I'll find anything else? Little by little, this motorcycle is slowly shaping up .

Thanks again, Paul. I have a feeling the work you did on the intake will improve a lot of things.
