Mentioned that in post 22...if it's leaking between the bottom of the rocker boxes and the head, prop up the tank take top cover off and check for loose bolts,if it's between the rocker covers, then check the top bolts... check the simple stuff first....:D

Chit ,that is too easy:cool:...If the tank was close to full,is there a chance to overheat the pump motor running it wide open to empty the tank??

:roflmao: Yup, the one and only. But I really did just tighten the rocker box nuts and stopped the gasket leak. And the plug hole was cross threaded when I got the motor, but I will admit to making it worse by not repairing it soon enough. And I inherited all the other leaks, too. But those are fixed now.

Nope the pump runs wide open when riding .the regulator just bypass the fuel not used by the motor . It does not know the engine is running or not . Follow ? Its not a varible speed pump like late model cars that run no regulator and dutycycle the neg side of pump. P.s. the pump uses fuel as coollant

    Yep that's why they say
DO NOT RUN OUT OF FUEL>
you overheat the fuel pump and can burn it up

Just bustin yer chops bud. I figure if I'm gonna yank the tank, lift off the covers, change the breathers I might as well yank the rocker boxes and change the gaskets. I have to learn this engine some time, I might as well start at the top.

Git some beer flats, you can keep the parts separated, and take notes.
A notebook and some picture might help too.:gah:

And above all, git a manual. Its a life saver.
