Figured but I needed to up my post count LOL

BTW the keeping the piston in the cyl trick works
until you let the bottom ring out,... LOL

YOu can get a ring compressor cheap at
any auto parts store, even rent them for free.

So if it does pop out, just put a ring compressor
on it and tap back in until its just past the bottom
and you then can load it back on the rod...

I got the new cam in last night but it's gotta come out again 'cause I need to get a thicker shim for tonight after work. Hopefully I will get the new heads on this weekend.
I used to have a 1973 Dodge Challenger too, with a built 340, that baby was fast. Paul you might have seen it around town about 20 years ago. It was Orange with black stripes.

I went to the monster truck show a couple weeks back and they had a small jet (heliocopter) engine inside a lil' smart car. That was cool! especially when he hit the afterburner.

If'n ya are broke, ya can git a Big Radiator Hose clamp and screw it around the rings to pull them in so you caN Jab the piston back in the Hole.

But Be careful, things can happen....:gah:

Sweet thanks Buddy, what about duct tape, will that work?
I can fix just about anything with duct tape, vise grips and a screw driver.

BTW when you do the piston inside the cyl thing
don't go all the way to bdc, leave the pistons up in the cyl a few inches
so when you lift the cyl off the case, if the piston slips down from the rod
not wanting to move you won't pull it right off.

because it's in gear the flywheels shouldn't move but you never know
and it's best to err on the side of caution.

Once you start getting it up you might run into clearance with the piston hanging out
and the cyl up, you might want a friend around for that third hand, you can have him/her push down on the rod after you pull the pin and give you more room.

Front is easier, lots of room, rear tighter but you can work it around..

Don't for get the base gaskets when you put it back together, nothing like
hooking up the piston getting the pin and retainer set and noticing the gaskets are
    on the table.. LOL

What happens if I drop a socket into the crankcase, can I just leave it there?

Anybody that does a build of anykind should of talked to a head man or builder and had all the parts sittin on a build table before they ever started a build. YOu don't just throw parts together.
You build a bike to what you want it to do.
No two builds has to be the same.
A good builder or Head man will tell you this from the git go.

Here's a couple pic of my cylinders showing the plugged up oil passages.
I think the case holes are plugged up too. Not good. I might have to have the new heads modified for external oil lines.
