The problem is the Bike community has not explained what those loud pipes are saying....... The pipes are saying " I am getting 40+ miles a gallon, how much is that car/truck/hummer you are riding in burning?

Let me say it again. JOIN YOUR MOTOR CYCLE RIGHTS ORGANIZATIONS. I see a lot of my fellow Texans here. I hope you are TMRA members, it only costs $25 bucks a year plus you get a patch to sew on your vest. Where do you think our 2nd amendment rights would be if it were not for the NRA and GOA? Al

You can moan and groan all you want but the truth was, is and will always be that we brought it on ourselves.

When you've got numb nut wannabes bragging about setting car alarms off at 3 AM, WTF do you think is going to happen eventually? You piss on and piss off John Q Citizen and WE loose every single time.

Next time some jack ass sits at a light and tries to impress the little old ladies with his big bad loud pipes...whack him in the head because HE is the problem.... We have rights and John Q has rights and there are more John Q's than us.

My retail store manager once had a conversation with a customer. He was PO'd about the boom boxers and the PD not enforcing the noise law. He was really PO'd about is that he got an illegal exhaust ticket....
This dumb ass was a "look at me" type that constantly blipped the throttle at every light. Gee, go figure.

    Hi All
The problem this side of the pond is not HDs with loud pipes, as I have never met anyone who did not love the sound of a Harleys rumble.:) The problem here is the Rice Rockets screaming up and down the same bit of road so the ****head can get his/her knee down at the roundabout and kid on they are Barry Shean (Showing my age) and the young kids on their 50s who strip out the baffels to try (In their eyes only) to impress and get some street cred. These types need a wake-up call.:fight:
The paint brush is very wide when the man applys the law as they see every bike and rider no matter size / make / colour / club, to them we are all just badass bikers who are easy pickings as we will not stand together for our rights. So as already said join your local motorcycle action group and lets stand fast together. Rant and sales pitch over!;)

You can join all the associations you want, problem is the city and states will enact noise laws, in fact most already have them on the books, keep running really loud pipes and eventually the LEO's will be forced to enforce the laws that are on the books already.

Then we all loose the right to choose the pipes we want, the look, sound will all be the same as stock.

FL law prohibits the changing of mufflers to anything other than stock or stock Db levels.

98% of the bikes out there are illegal, all they have to do is setup inspections here in the state and everyone will be hammered, I have a set of stock pipes in the garage, just in case.

BTW I'm not advocating not joining, it's a good thing to do for a lot of reasons, so I'm not against Assoc, just saying in this case the issue is getting bigger and we will run out of time to act.

Having an Assoc sue over it is a reaction. Better to act and thwart the problem. JMO

I don't mind louder than stock pipes, but I've been trying to quiet it down a bit for the neighbors, the 124 really puts out noise, in fact the Bassani Pro Streets are so friggin loud I can't stand them on the bike LOL Guys I ride with said it hurt their ears bad when I rocketed off from a light

Got an e series on it now and it's still pretty loud even with the end cap on the pipe.

Point being we have the opportunity to roll back some of the tide against us before it gets to the point you need a lawyer, be better to do that up front than get stuck having to go to stock pipes while everyone dukes it out in a courtroom, and then you have to deal with whatever some judge comes up with, could be a bike riding judge and could be one that hates them.

Rather make my own choices vs giving it to some lawyers and judges to set a rule.

My CYcle Shacks got here yesterday and I bolted them on the Road King. They seem like a fair compromise, louder than OEM but quieter than the Hooker Step Tuned I have on the Fatboy. But "fair" is totally beside the point and it is probably a question of "when" not "if". I remember many years ago seeing an EPA safety approved motorcycle cartoon. It was loaded down will all kinds of rediculous stuff. Wish I could find that cartoon. At the time it was funny but today it probably would not seem so far fetched. S&S has redesigned 3 engines to comply with new environmental regs on the near horizon. The future of Harley will probably be motors similar to the V-Rod water cooled and your modification options will be limited to painting it, of course no urethane allowed, water base only. Oh well I just took a short ride and the cycle shacks are pretty cool. i got the rocket tip version. Soon as it cools off I think Ill take them for an honest ride. Enjoy 'em while ya can. AL

Thats sad man.... I've never been hassled about my pipes...Now my next door neighbor might have a beef when I'm heading in to work at 6:00 on sunday morning. I usually start it up & leave right away cause I know if I let it idle in the drive they would probably come to my house with a shotgun the next morning.

Got a noise violation ticket a few months back from the Fremont CA police for loud pipes. Was running a set of V&H slip-ons on a 95 inch road glide. Didn't think they were too loud, but the DB meter said otherwise. Rerplaced the V&H with a set of Rush slipons with 1 3/4" baffles and passed the noise tests. The surprising outcome of the whole ordeal is that my low end torque improved, fuel mileage went up and I can sneak home late without waking up the neighbors or setting off any alarms. Took a ticket to show me about the noise, but I am not complaining after being shown the error of my ways. My bike was one of the quieter ones in the crowd I run with and now I run the stealth cycle. I can live with it and my neighbors are much hapier when I come home late.

    loud pipes

the lastest rage here in San Antonio Texas is >these young kids on thier souped up Japanese bikes doing wheelies on the freeway at about 65-70mph>>one time I was crusing down the freeway when this kid passed me up at about 85-90 mph laying on his back steering the Japanese bike with his legs>>I got off at the nearest exit so I wouldnt have to see this kid SPLATTERED on the road>I think the cops around here need to stop these kids before they kill themselves or someone else instead of worrying about my loud pipes> my bike is loud but at 50years young I know how to act around cops:witsend:

Cops in SA are a joke...... I have not been impressed with the SAPD OR bexer Co sherrif's department...course, what with the Illegal activity of Sheriff Lopez.... no wonder things are so bad around here. I just ride to and from work, THEN out into the country. Makes me nervous as a long tailed cat in room full of rocking chairs to ride in this town.....
