I somehow was reminded about a funny story which led me to the previous post. In 1996 I was out in Missoula Montana on a bridge project on I90 west of town. I was fly fishing on the Clark fork river under the bridge before work. Two guys came drifting down the river in pontoon boats. They saw me and landed the opposite side of the river. They hung there quite a while and watched me catch some nice rainbows. I got the feeling they wanted to fish my spot. I reeled in and packed up and waved them over. When they came I said hi and told them what the fish were hitting. Then one guy says " sounds like we have a damn Yankee here ". That really took me off guard since everyone else I have met were so nice there. I remarked that I thought everyone north of the Mason-Dixon Line was a Yankee. The 2nd guy said " don't mind my buddy he's just an asshole from Philadelphia ".

I worked midnite to noon.Got off headed home and was T I R E D. I get home and tried to pull in the drive way. Snow was over the tires deep and managed only to get car off the road and then she wasn't going forward or backward. Thank God for me kubota. I'da been forked w/out out it. I have about a 120 foot drive way and then another maybe 30 foot inlet out from the garage. Snow blower was instrumental in clearing a path for the kubota to come out of the barn and not get stuck. Once I got that bucket loader out...it was get-er-done time. It was too much snow for the snowblower. The snow was another 4-6+ inches over the snow blower. The kubota threw it around like nothing, especially in the front of the drive way where the snow plows make a bad situation so much worse. I think we got 14-16 inchs total.

Do you guys usually get that much snow during the winter.
We're getting hit this weekend with what we call the Pineapple Express. Its a cloud front that extends from Hawaii to right at us. Brings warmer temps but a huge amount of rain. Talking flooding this weekend.

Nope we don't. Not in recent years anyways. BAck in the late 60's thru the 70's, early '80's yes, winters were brutal like this. Last year I used the snow blower once. YEar before that maybe not at all.

Hope you live on a hill or have a boat handy, lol.

We are getting another 5+ inches today. So glad I got rid if the single stage snowblower 2 seasons ago and got a nice size 2 stage. It's like going from a iron head to a 110 !

I'm really glad I don't need a snow blower. If we got snow like that I would be borrowing that truck from HRK.
Sometimes I feel like we need some pontoons for the bike, must of got a couple inches of rain today, at least.

Single stage are 2 stroke running only an auger that has rubber edges. The auger scrubs the pavement and acts as the method of pulling the blower along. They work great for light snow I had a craftsman for 4 years and was very pleased. But the heavy and deep snow it takes much longer and tilting up then down to get through.

Looks too polite. Its a wonder you was able to use it much. Good one to have say in NC where it doesn't snow much or often. Real men have plows on there pick up trucks up here. Glad you got a beefier one..like you say..its like going from a ironhead to a 110. And better then using a lawnmower

Heck there were powder snow days where I used my Ecco backpack leaf blower to blow the snow off drive and walk.

One of the perks living near the ocean I guess it doesn't snow as much? And its better than using your lawn mower too.

I live with the ocean 12 miles away and Long Island sound half mile. Usually we get a lot less snow than even NYC thanks to the relatively warm ocean waters But this year it's crazy with how much snow we've gotten do far. And tonight another 3" is coming. We are over 55" so far.

Were getting our 7th in a row Wednesday storm today, can't really call today's a storm yet though...about 6" and winds not too high only 20-30MPH...We're having an old fashioned winter this year...we've been spoiled the last few years...

I remember lots of snow in Cleveland, Ohio where I grew up. I'm really glad Mac the Wife insisted we moved to N.C. instead of back to Ohio when we moved from California. The most snow we've had here was 18" the winter of 1999/2000 and it came almost all at once. Schools were closed for a week or more.

My x company is in Cleveland. Snow is crazy there. Lake effect snow it's called. Artic wind comes across Great Lakes picks up moisture then dumps it. Buffalo ny the same.

Now we can complain about the flooding...Been raining all morning on top of all the snow we got and is melting...Wife says both sump pumps in the basement are working...I should probably replace them as they are close to 20 years old...Anyone know the expected life of a sump pump?

Not sure about the life but at 20 years the technology has improved on electric motors, a new one will probably cost less to operate and maybe even quieter than the old ones...
