I got lucky. The wear is less than 10 thousandths of an inch. I'll check them again in another 30-40 k miles.

Or maybe that's the way they're supposed to wear - nice and slow.

If I go in to check the tensioners. I'm gonna replace the inner cam bearings.
And replace the tensioners and the lifters.
Just had a buddy to have a lifter go out on a 08 EG.
Scored up his cams too. All the rollers in his lifters went out.

Got another buddy that went on a Ride to Eureka Springs in May to loose his inner cam bearings.

No he went there and after he got back he had metal shavings in his oil. The inner cam bearing had gone out.
He just checks the tensioners and don't every check anything else.

Well I did check the cam face and it was fine. Now if I had your money I would have pulled the pushrod covers, pushrods , lifters, cam plate , cams and oil pump. Then I would have spent aBout a grand of YOUR money on new cam bearing, cams, lifters, hydraulic tensioners, SE oil pump, gear drive and chrome cam cover screws.
If the bearing decides to go to Eureka Springs I will have a bridge to cross then. Maybe a Victory bridge.

Yep, bearings can fail, lifters can fail....but you're not gonna pull the cam chest apart just to check them:rolleyes:....When the tensioners need replacing, then do a close inspection...If it's the stock INA inner bearings, then yep, replace them when you do the tensioners....If you're going to do a cam swap when you replace the tensioners, then yep, change inner bearings and lifters...If you're just checking the tensioners for wear and they're good... button it back up and ride....
FB, I would consider shortening the inspection time for the next one though, like around 15,000-20,000 because the wear rate can accelerate as they wear and you'd like to get them before pieces start coming off the tensioners and fubar the oil pump among other things...
But to pull the cam chest every year to inspect inner bearings and lifters is way over kill IMO:D

    Inner cam bearings are Cheap.
    Tensioners are about 160.00
SE tapered Quck install pushrods are about 180.00 a gasket for the cover is about 25.00
a set of lifters are about 250.00

Don't know why you are going to replace the Oil pump

You do the maintenance you want.
    And if something goes wrong.

You did deep into your pockets and fix it.

I have no bridge to cross, I'm right where I want to be.
    Nor riding a Victory.
FLHT & Hotroadking will get one 1st.

while you are in there might as well pull the cylinders
and check he crank bearings for excessive wear so you dont
end up with scored cylinders, plus pull the transmission apart
and make sure the bearings and seals are in the right places
and not failing.... Do this every 15K....
