doing some cleaning, had the jets out, and shot some cleaner.
Found the needle jet came out. But I just wanted to check,
the bevel end goes up toward needle, square end goes down
toward the jet. Do I remember correctly?

Find a diagram on the internet (do a search, there are lots) for your carb and compare to it.

Sorry for the late reply but yes, the beveled side faces up into the carburetor throat where the needle enters the jet, and the flat end faces down against the emulsion tube.
