Heh,Might already have an EV27 & compression raised with higher compression pistons ...That was a pretty popular combination in mid-90's

Yeah it would be cool just swap gaskets & go then I'll already have a new cam for later , I will still need to double check the lifers/rollers while in there

Put in no less than 3 hours yesterday grinding and shaping the new seat bracket. Mocked it up on the frame and it appears that I'll have to drill into the frame tubes part way, if it's even possible to do that without the drill bit slipping sideways. Anyhow, I don't like the idea of weakening the frame by drilling holes in it.
Even if the holes were drilled successfully, which I think is impossible, there won't be any way to attach nuts to the bolts as the oil bag would be in the way. One solution I see is to cut the ends off the bracket and get it welded on. But the reason I got the bolt on bracket in the first place was so I wouldn't have to weld so close to the gas tank. Middle picture shows the seat mocked up on the frame exactly where it must go. 20140124_3 (640x480).jpg 20140124_2 (640x480).jpg 20140124_1 (640x480).jpg

Another idea I came up with would be to drill down only far enough to tap the holes into the plate, but I don't know if there would be enough thread depth to hold the bracket on. It's either tap or weld . . . but which?

After posting this morning and after I had my morning coffee, I came up with a solution. It will entail more fabricating, etc., but there's nothing else to do with the weather the way it is.

I'm going to fab up two new spring mounts, the base being made out of 1" channel iron and extend the seat back towards the fender 1". This will allow plenty of room for the bolts & nuts to fit without drilling into the frame. I would also have to move my ignition switch to a new location. Here's a sketch: 20140124_4 (640x480).jpg

I had always wished that my seat was positioned farther back anyway, and now I have a good excuse to do it:cool:.

When I was reading your first few posts about this and then saw your drawings, that's what I was kind of thinking to. Good work should work.

Yeah the second idea sounds better , don't think I would drill the frame right there ,I would have welded it , just pull the tank & cover the rest

Being the lazy guy I sometimes am, I didn't want to have to pull the tank either - I just got it in there LOL.
Barley pops are good, but coffee is better in the morning - it woke me up.

Moncton close enough, I can see it across the river. I must be an idiot, I can copy, but when I open signature window, it will not let me paste, only "delete" and "select all".

There are a couple of right click places - that's what got me confused. HRK linked me to a short video how to do it, but I haven't been able to find which thread it was on :banghead:.

20140127_4 (640x480).jpg Well, I got the new spring mounts made (top pic) and the old bungs off, but destroyed them in the process. Removed the ignition bracket as I'm moving it to the other side of the bike and hang it below the frame this time so it will clear the new location of the seat spring. Man, what a lot of work for such a itty bitty thing. Still need to buy some new bungs & it's looking like $40 for a set (ouch). . . 20140127_1 (640x480).jpg 20140127_2 (640x480).jpg 20140127_3 (640x480).jpg
