Add a good in-line fuel filter to stop the debris before it's stuck in the carb, it's easier to change filters than clean the carb again.

losing my mind....i go out to the garage this morning and there's a puddle of fuel under the air filter on the concrete floor

so took bowl off....plenty of fuel in bowl....wasn't so high that it was coming out of overflow, but full anyway

float is functioning because when i pressed up on float it stopped fuel from entering bowl

....so took float and valve off carb....gonna replace float valve for the hell of it...i mean, it looks fine, but from what i've read you really never know just by looking

okay....figured it out....it was a combination of things

accel pump diaphragm, poor setting on a/f mixture screw, and float valve (a bit worn)

    ...now she really snaps

    thanks for everyone's help!

indeed, brother-in-law and i cleaned out the tanks pretty thoroughly on saturday afternoon.... was nothing in there

the dirt i found in the accelerator pump cavity was no doubt due to debris that had accumulated before i bought the bike and tore it down in oct 2010... also, when i rebuilt the carb with the CV kit i never opened the accel pump, nor checked the float valve for wear (had an uneven wear pattern around the base...as if it had been sitting in the seat a bit cocked)

anyway....was able to get her up and running to operating temp, so going to dynamic time it this week
