Hot01 mentioned a good point....the spring loaded tensioners could be a bit of an issue....they could last anywhere from 15,000 to 50,000 miles, just something you have to check, not a big problem....once they are worn upgrade to the SE Hybrid kit and your good to go....

Hey JB, good to see ya postin':D

Nailit, I have both while I really love my Limited 103 which performs flawlessly I also equally like the 01 Springer of mine that has a carb. The carb once you have set up to what ever your running gives great performance and fuel mileage. The Furl injected bike can be a bit more expensive to make changes on for proper air/fuel settings. I would not be afraid of buying a used bile with a carb as they are pretty easy to work on. On the other hand the EFI bikes takes a good tuner and knowledge on setting them up

That is a really nice looking Roadking, good for you and congratulations. I see it has Vance and Hines pipes. Those pipes sound really good to. Your going to love it. :)

I see the plate says Calif. What part you from?

    Thanks guys,
The bike was originally purchased new in San Jose, I live in Lompoc, about an hour North of Santa Barbara on the coast.

Your right on the coast then. Isn't there a big air force base there. Nice area though and been through there a few years back.

Nice! Carbureted sounds better, especially with the Vance and Hines. (my opinion)

Yep right on the coast. The Base is Vandenberg AFB. Aerospace and Missile defense mostly...
I'm in the construction trades and have worked out there quite a bit over the years.

OK, have couple questions about this. Looked at American Rider site and saw article on this. They contacted several HD dealerships, Bartel and Ventura in Ca and Tilley in NC. Two of the three recommended replacing the tensioner shoe at 45K to 50K miles, no later than 60K.

Wondering what you guys think of that, do you agree? Should it be a replacement or upgrade to SE Hybrid kit? What would be the signs of shoe wear?

    Thanks for any input....

Mine were shot at 28,000 miles, pieces of the tensioner shoe went through and scored up my oil pump pretty good....I cut open the oil filter and each pleat was full of pieces of shoe from top to bottom...shoes were worn almost all the way through on mine...another guy had his bike at my buds at the same time and the tensioner shoe was completely gone and he had less miles on his than mine....it's easy to check them but the front pipe has to come off, then if the shoe is worn half way through...replace... or upgrade...I did the SE Hybrid kit

On my 01 Springer at 39,000 miles mine were worn down and probably would have gone another 5K miles. I decided to have it upgraded to the new system. Put new cams, and a 95 kit in at the same time.

I would assume that gear driven cams dont use a tensioner?
Also what does the SE Hybrid Kit consist of? same design just quality of materials?
