Nice video. Just to be picky, there is a minor mistake with it. The Corvette pictured is a Corvette NOT a Stingray. I believe the 1963 model year began the "Stingray" era. It was the Split Window Coupe. just saying.

Yes you are correct the C2 chassis is when the Stingray Moniker came to be, now do you know where Sting Ray came from (it was two words at first)

Bill Mitchell the head cheese at GM styling over the Corvette had a car he sponsored called the Mitchell Sting Ray in 59 and later with the C3 line (68 to 82) he had the cool Mako Shark car that Chevy did and he got the name from one he caught fishing.

Yep. I built the Mako Shark model as a kid when I was into building hundreds of model cars.

Yep, same here, one about a mile from my house growing up, more than 90*. Eventually they cut another rode and made it an intersection. We lost several kids to that curve. :(

An little interesting note about Jan and Dean's "Dead Man's Curve": when I was stationed in San Diego, I met Dean at El Toro Air Base doing a photo shoot there using P 51 Mustangs. He was riding a new Sportster then, and we struck up a conversation about riding the Pacific Coast highway.

He said he missed a curve on his old Triumph and went over a low embankment into the ocean. He laughed about surviving Dead Man's Curve, but how he killed his Triumph. We rode a lot of miles together that summer, and had many brews over bike talk.

Cool. But wasn't it Jan who really crashed a car and got screwed-up for years? I remember seeing him limp out during a concert to sing with Dean after years of rehab.

You are correct sir! Jan would never ride a motorcycle, even back in their early days. Dean's the one who lost his bike in the ocean, but it was quite a bit after they wrote "Dead Man's Curve".

Cool stories and music! Thanks, guys. Dead Man's curve is one of many 45's I don't have. Nowadays, the record is worth around $25 and the picture sleeve around $60, in mint condition, of course. Dang record used to be 35 cents including picture sleeve on the bargain shelves of the record store! Just thought I'd mention it 'cause I used to collect old 45's. Don't any more - got too expensive . . .

I never collected 45's, but have a good collection of LP's still. I converted a bunch onto cd's so I wouldn't wear them out. Now, it looks like cd's may be on their way out too.

Josh, you probably were like me when it came to music....it's all I cared about back then, and helped me keep my sanity when I came back home. I used to ride my bike while listening to a small transistor radio with Monster Speakers (all that was available back then) that I glued into my helmet. Kept a full pack of 9 volt batteries in my tool kit.

Music in the 60's and 70's was exceptional and still sounds great to my ears.

My music was late 50s, all of the 60s and early 70s after that it was junk. Really like the Doors and that sound. :)

Living in So Cal for a while, I really got into the Calif. hot rod and beach music. Was a very unique way of life back then, and loved every minute. You can't imagine the thrill of seeing (and hearing) Sporty's and Triumphs drag racing with Vettes down Sepulveda Blvd. with the cops sitting in their cars just watching.

I play guitar and back in the 60's I collected all kinds of 45's and LP's AND sheet music for a lot of the pop music. I have many many LPs but they are so worn that they ain't worth much. Charlie46 played guitar as well, we used to rock! So's, I listen to SirusXm 60's and the Blues channel.
Ps. Can't play much anymore, old fingers.

I used to play a mean Pipeline before I caught some shapnel in my left arm that ended my guitar career. Course, there was maybe only one other that could play like Stevie Ray. The one and only Mark Knofler of Dire Straights. Thanks for the memories, guys.
