Underside of rockerbox covers OK, but outboard bushings closest to pushrods at all 4 rocker arms are worn a bit oval, and a couple are blackened where brass has worn thru layers of babbiting?

I'd say it was an issue with the donor bike parts, did you inspect them
were the bushings worn like that already?

Like I mentioned earlier in thread, I was foolishly optimistic and did not know at the time to inspect this wear point. I have since learned several valuable H-D lessons with this bike and hope to complete my H-D Jedi training over the next few years.
Just a stupid noob mistake really, no one to blame but myself. Still suprised the dealer techs did not catch this though when chasing my noise...

Imagine most folks doing this at home would just
expect parts to be parts, good lesson learned,
either live with the tic if it's not unbearable or
spend the bucks to get it fixed or replaced.

    Shit happens

From the very little experience I have with dealer techs, I won't let them go near my bike again. I have heard way more bad than good.

Rocker boxes will be off to machine shop today, bought new filter and 3 liters ($20.00 a liter! OUCH!) 20W50 AMSoil on weekend. Mobil1 20w50 oil seems hard to come by up here...

    $20.00/liter ....End of last year I got 4 -6 paks of Valvoline VR1 Syn 20-50 for $42.00($41.99) a case= $7.00 each....on Amazon, unavailable now of course:rolleyes:
Did you try Wallyworld or Canadian Tire for M1??
Wally world had Valvoline last year too, the VR1 Syn wasn't $7.00 each but it wasn't near $20.00/liter either, around $12.00 I think.

It is cheaper for me in the long run to get it where I see it, instead of burning gas running all over town in the truck. I was at the dealer getting parts, it was on the shelf, and I have not had any luck finding the Mobil 1 20w50 around here. Of course, $12 per liter vs. $20 per liter would have been $24 of gas for running around shopping, but the time spent is also something I usually can't spare. Some days you just can't win.

If you have a AutoZone or a Wallmart in your area check them out. I buy my Mobile 1 at AutoZone

Mobile 1 20-50 at Walmart ?!?! Not in this area! Maybe in Pep Boys. I get Redline Synthetic at a Cycle Gear Store which is about a 90 mile round trip ride. I get my Wix filters on line about 6 at a time.

No, I mean WalMart is here. Not any motorcycle oil there, but we have the store.

New bushings installed in rocker boxes, about $80 at machine shop. Reassembled the other day, got a chance to run it last night on the road, ticky noise in top end seems gone. Changed out oil to synthetic also while it was apart. MC rally in Amherst, N.S. this weekend, will have to see how it goes on the way down and back.
    Seems bushings were the cure!

If you can't get Mobile one look at Castrol or Valvoline Vtwin Oil sold at Walmart.

I love Red Line syn. I've put 30,000 on bike and have had the primary open rockers off, Like new! AND, I put Red Line tranny oil in my 5 speed. To each their own or, whatever floats yer boat.
